Hi
Ive just bought a 2007 Fiat Panda multijet from a dealership (Mazda). I'm not sure if the oil/filter was changed when they serviced it a month ago, as they did not tick the box in the service book. I don't want to take the chance since the last noted oil change was at 29495 miles and the car is now on 41000 miles! I'd guess a good dealership would see this in the service book and do an oil change anyway. But I don't want to chance ruining the engine.

Its under 6 month warranty and I know I could simply ask them but they may lie.

How can I tell if the oil is new or 11000 miles old? Is it dirty and smell bad if its old?

Also what is the recommended oil change mileage/time for the panda 1.3 multijet?

If I have to do it myself, I know the engine needs 5w40 oil, but is any brand of 5w40 ok say if I just get a budget brand?

Btw going off the subject the outer skin of the exhaust back box was badly corroded. I told them this before I bought the car and they said they'd look at it. It passed its MOT with an advisory on the back box. Got the car home and they had only just painted the back box.

Use quality oil mine has done 165000 miles now and doesn't need any oil between changes (12000 miles)

Service interval is 12K miles but I usually get mine serviced more around the 10K mark.

Mine is now at 91K miles and getting 65-68 mpg (properly calculated as opposed to the car computer) each tankful. Last tank I filled up after doing 491.5 miles. Reckon I could have done the magic 500 miles from that tank but chickened out!

I've had 550 miles out of a tank on my multijet on a return journey to farnborough using shell v-power, it more than pays for itself. Oil should be 5w40 fully synthetic B4. Oil is cheaper than metal so I do my cars every 6 months.

Bah, I've done 600 miles on a tank ;)

Yeah but I still think it's not bad going when most of that was around the city with stop start as opposed to one long drive with little gear changing.
