20VT restoration

New to FF. Bought my 20VT coupe in Jan after lysting after one since 1998.
I fell in love with a red LE in a fiat dealer. It was well out of my league at the time.

But now almost 16 years later I've got one!
However 183k miles and all that time that's passed has unfortunately not left it in "new" condition lol.

It does have a full dealer stamped service book and a huge history from motormech and is still on its original turbo!

As it's a bit tired I'm planning on giving it a full restoration with some more ponies too.

It comes off the road at the end of July for a year long resto.
In the mean time I'm dropping a 20vt in my new daily run about a Marea saloon.

I'll update as and when things happen.

Re: 20VT restoration

The car was off the road for almost all of May
I wanted to have a quick look at the manifold as I'd seen a broken manifold stud.
I've missed it so much!
Now back on the road but only till the end of July.
I put on an evo six front mounted intercooler while I was at it.
The calipers are in desperate need of a rebuild now so the fun is limited

Re: 20VT restoration

The brakes got better with some enthusiastic use so im back to giant killing again (on private roads) for a while.
Problem is it looks as fast as it goes so not many people want to play.
So far a bike has given me the best run for my money

im running the front mount, walbro pump and wiring mod, stainless cat back, apexi filter and a gtec2 chip for now.

Looks well clean and tidy! What front mount is that? I'm thinking of fitting one but will probably be the pro alloy

Re: 20VT restoration

It's from an evo seven. It dropped the boost down a smidgen which is why I stuck a gtec2 chip on it. Best fifteen quid I ever spent!

The turbo on the car is the original one and has seen 184k now so I think this will kill it off sooner rather than later.
But it's only got to last another few weeks so sod it.

I can't wait to get stuck into rebuilding this car, I've budgeted about a year for the rebuild but it just depends on the financial situation really.
It will be getting a proper glass out bare shell rebuild. Going down to prostrip in the midlands for a session in the acid bath.
It's looking like two grand to get it stripped and washed twice before being zinc coated. And in between that I've got to get the repairs done and then after all that it will need painting.

Re: 20VT restoration

Back in the shop now, tax cashed in and waiting for the stripping to begin.

Re: 20VT restoration

Not much been happening recently as finances have been tight. Things are looking brighter again now so things can proceed.
Began stripping the car and putting stuff into storage till it's either replaced or cleaned up.

Wiring loom removal, started at the back.

More updates soon, just saving up for engine rebuild parts now.

Re: 20VT restoration

Long time no post, spent some time lounging on the multipla forum (everyone needs to try one)
I'm still on with this project although I have another coupe to use while this one is in piece's.

The project is taking a new direction and I'm changing a few things. If you're a fiat coupe purist you may not want to know.
If you're open minded about using bits from other manufacturers then this thread will be right up your street.

Re: 20VT restoration

I've decided due to coupe prices starting to go up that a proper original restoration is the only way to go.
I've started a YouTube channel to document its rebuild along with my three other cars.
Of course I will keep this thread updated but here is a link to the first part of the project, a little introduction to the car.
