Hi guys, just purchased a 2007 fiat doblo cargo 1.3 multijet, so far so good, can anyone tell me what is the motorway speed limitbfor this van.

You'd think it would be a simple answer, but it seems it's not.

I've got a 2004 Doblo Cargo 1.3Mjet, the most basic one you can get with no bulkhead, side doors or anything else to add weight. On the V5 registration document it's a "car derived van" which means it has a GVW of less than 2000kg (I think it's 1975kg, so only just under). That's not what it weighs, but what it could weigh if loaded to the maximum Fiat say it can take. It therefore can do 70mph on a motorway the same as a car can.

There are a number of Doblo versions though that have a GVW over 2000kg. They (I believe) show as something else on the V5 (panel van?) and they're only allowed to do 60mph on the motorway. I'm not sure if any of the 1.3 versions exceed 2000kg, but your V5 will tell you which category the authorities have put it in.

Hope this helps, but if you get a ticket don't blame me - I could be wrong, I have been before!

Thanks allenpa4, as I thought not as straight forward as expected, had a friend that raised this point with me regarding my van, as he had hired a transit and was fined £100 pounds and 3 pentalty points for doing 72 on a dual carriage way, dont have the v5 yet regarding the classification, think Il stick to 60 for time being.

Motorway speed limit is 70mph for all vans up to 7.5 tonnes.

Car-derived vans with a maximum gross weight not exceeding 2 tonnes can travel at car speeds, so single-carriageway 60mph, dual-carriageway 70mph.

If over 2 tonnes, or not a car-derived van, limits are reduced. Single-carriageway 50mph, dual-carriageway 60mph.

The Transit, and any other similar sized van will never be a car-derived van, so dual-carriageway is 60mph, hence the speeding ticket.

Most double-cab pickups will fit into the van category, so should be going slower than the rest of us. Shame they don't police that more, might get fewer of them bullying us.
