we don't get to see many older FIATs in the UK,
Charlie
Well spent the day pulling all the bits out from under the bonnet.
Looks like an original engine & trans, Has an aluminum
Head & wide sump aluminum oil pan.
Had a couple extra engines with it. As well as an extra trans axle.
we got her all cleaned up top looks to be pretty new, works great.
One of the extra engines was complete. with another aluminum pan.
Also a cute little aluminum head. Were they all aluminum heads?
The other engine was just a short block already torn down,
it has a steel pan oil for it. But missing the head.
On the complete engine we soaked down the bores with some rust buster. Pulled the plugs and filled her up. Pretty tight to turn.
So we pulled the head off it and gave the cyl. a light hone to make it easy to pull the pistons. Just by chance the crank was positioned sideways with all pistons in the midway position. That made it easy to
remove the rod caps for inspection. Pistons all came out pretty easy.
Upon inspection the rear piston was lodged in pretty well. all the others came out with some persuasion & dead blow hammer.
This one required a little more soaking so after a night we will see.
Left her to soak over night. check her out tomorrow.
The little car cleaned up nice, structure seems rust free.
