Hi ... I have a Fiat Scudo and it's been fine till

Dec 1 ... filled up - drove a couple of miles - stopped 20 mins - would not start - engine whirled over but nothing
Played under the bonnet ... few taps here n there (while waiting RAC) and after 15/20 mins it fired up and home we went (cancelled RAC)

Dec 3 ... next time out - started first time - drove less than a mile - parked up for 25 mins - then engine whirled over but nothing
Called RAC - they sent recovery truck and got towed home

Over the weekend tried several codes readers and nowt

From then till Dec 11 ... it would not start - just whirled and nowt

Dec 12 ... it started - drove to garage to be tested - they had it for 3 days - it started first time every time for them - they didn't even have to get in the van to start it ... took it out a couple of times - done 9 miles and said it started and drove fine ...
They never had any problem to test but charged £90 for their time

Dec 12 ... started first time to drive home

Dec 13 ... started first time ... done shopping and started again - no problem

Dec 14 ... loaded up for day trip ... and it wouldn't start - back to having fiddle under bonnet - tap here n there - fuse box - relay etc ... and it went about 10 mins later
Drove 30 odd miles - parked up several hours - drove 15 mins - parked and hour - drove 20 odd miles home

Dec 15 ... started first time - drove about a mile - stopped 10 mins all good - drove 12 miles - parked/shopped here we go again ... few more taps and we are on the move - drove 12 miles - parked up and shopped - drove a mile or so parked up 30mins and off we go again
Home and parked up

Dec 17 ... started first time ... drove a mile or so ... as I was alone nipped out with engine running then drove back home
6hrs later it's not playing again

Tried upteem times since then ... fitted new relay today and it's still not going

Anyone have any thoughts please

Hello, and welcome to the forum,

ask in the Scudo section, there are a few regulars in there who know there way around a Scudo,

did it always start from COLD.. but play-up when half-warm..??

does the key / immobiliser light go out o.k.,..?? - that would be a good starting point,
Charlie

The key is only read when you try to start the engine, not while the engine is running.
You can start engine and break the head off the key and the engine will not cut out.

This is not a key/immo problem.

Not so sure ,

it appears to be a "non-start" problem.. not Grinding to a halt..

Crank Angle Sensor may also be a good starting point.., just trying to rule out the obvious first..;)hence key code question,

also should really ask, :)
any other work done - faults appeared in the last few weeks..??

Charlie

Ah, sorry, read this wrong and assumed the car had cut out.
"1st Dec -drove a couple of miles, stopped 20 mins".

Take your key into a good locksmith and have them check the chip.
These are glass and can sometimes get damaged and give an intermittent fault as you describe.

Had it since May 2013 ... never had a problem starting till

Dec 1 .... when filled up (tank was on 1/4) - drove a couple of miles stopped for awhile and then it wouldn't start

Got it going and was fine ....

From then it just seems to start when it feels like it ... pot luck - but the luck has run out now since last week .... do try to start it a few times a day

Being female I see things differently lol .... and my thought was the key was being naughty (it's a lump and the key fold inside the casing)
Or maybe a speck of whatever is blocking fuel from getting where it needs to go --- and general movement of the van will - block or unblock it's self

I'm very careful with the key

3 weeks without a vehcle is not good  especially when you use crutches and a wheelchair (n)

Update van went into Fiat dealer on 31st Dec
Got it back 5th Feb with guarantee it was fixed
A new conrol switch was fitted and charges £199.36

Drove 29 miles on 7th Feb
27 miles on 9th Feb
after 30 odd miles on 15th Feb .... popped into tesco and came out - and NOT starting again

After messing for about 90 mins .... tapping plugs relay box and locking and unlocking with key fob ... we managed to get it going again

What year Scudo is it. They normally suffer a bit from terminals in plug connectors opening up and not making a good connection hence the intermittent cutting out and on off starting fault. Depending on the fuel pump you will have 1 or 2 switches on the back of the fuel pump unplug them and look in the end of the plugs you can close the terminals down with a small pick or screwdriver. Do the same with the plug on the rail pressure sensor.
My first port of call is always to change the fuel filter tho.

Thanks Jayc .... reading above seems to fit our bill nicely

It done it to me today and O/H had a look - we took photos of the Injector pump ... but I can't post them on here (no too pc clever)

Will keep trying .....

HI.HAVE YOU TRIED HAVING SOMEBODY PRESS THE BACK OF THE CRANK SENSOR(REMOVE AIRBOX ROUND BACK OR ENGINE JUST ABOVE GEARBOX AREA)WHILST CRANKING VAN OVER?.CHECK WIRES ON KNOCK OFF SWITCH,(DRIVERS SIDE ENGINE BAY IN LEFT HAND TOP CORNER).IM HAVING SIMILAR ISSUES WITH MY 06 PLATE,ALSO WHEN IT IS RUNNING WIGGLE THE WIRES THAT RUN FRONT OF ENGINE TO ROUND GEARBOX AREA IF IT CUTS OUT COULD BE WHERE A WIRE HAS CORRODED,ALSO TRY WIGGLING PLUGS ON INJECTORS AS THEY GET WARM AND CAN BRAKE,MINE IS A 16V AND PRONE TO IT,BUT CHANCES ARE ITS A PLUG OR BROKEN WIRE,WOULDN'T SUSPECT KEY TRANSPONDER AS IF IT RUNS THEY DON'T TEND TO BE INTERMITTENT,(y)
