Hi, All - Newbie Alert!

A week ago I fell out of love with my Panda Cross. The check engine light came on, with only two weeks before the MOT expires.

It didn't go into limp mode, but I nursed it home and cancelled plans for the day. Hoped it was a one-off and nothing to worry about. Next day the engine light came on as soon as I started it up, and stayed on, so I cancelled the MOT I'd booked and arranged to take it into the local garage for them to diagnose. The light didn't come on when I drove it to the garage, nor when they test-drove it, but the stored diagnostic code came up as P0238 - 'turbo boost pressure sensor A malfunction'. "Nothing to worry about," they told me as they relieved me of £60; "it's obviously an intermittent fault - probably won't come on again for months, if ever."

Well, it did. It came on today, and this time there was a big drop in power for a few seconds before it seemed to recover.

MOT, rescheduled for tomorrow, expires in six days. Is this going to make it fail?

I have scoured the Internet for help with this, and it seems to pop up frequently on Fiats. Can anyone give me an idea what to try, and it what order, to sort this out? I have a mechanical friend who can help me fix it to save me having to rob a bank to pay the garage to fiddle with it for hours and hours while they try this and that. But a few directional hints would be very much appreciated. (Bats eyelashes fetchingly) x

hi ruth, I also have a panda cross with the same fault code. engine light comes on when accelerating hard and goes out after a day or two. had a new maf censor fitted which made no difference, then a new egr valve which sorted it for about 4 months. but now the faults back and my local fiat garage think the turbo needs replacing at a cost of over £600. as the fault only comes on with firm accelerating, I think I will just have to learn to be less heavy footed.
