Help with an EGR Valve?!

I've got a fiat grande punto 2006 1.3JTD, and have replaced the glow plugs twice during the past month. I was getting the glow plug warning message popping up every time I started the car and had to warm the plugs up to 10 times on a cold start. The new plugs worked perfectly for a few days and now need warming twice on a cold start, I've replaced the relay for the plugs and this makes no difference, just wondering if it could be related to the EGR valve which I haven't yet touched, if anyone could confirm the location of the EGR valve so I can give it a clean that would be great! Also I know you can blank of many EGR valves.....any advice?

Thanks

Paris

Hi Paris, and welcome to FF.!!,

your problem does sound a little unusual, NOT an EGR failure though..??

personally I would get the engines fault codes read before fitting ANY more new parts,

this may highlight where the problem lies,

where are you based?,

Re: Help with an EGR Valve?!

Hi Charlie, thanks for the input

I'm based in kettering, Northamptonshire.

There are no engine fault codes appearing and it only seems to be the first start of the day thats causing issues now.

I have to say I'm a bit mythed by it now haha

Could it be anything to do with the EGR? or would that be fairly unlikely....

Re: Help with an EGR Valve?!

Hi again,
I would say 99% NOT EGR related,

more likely to be a poor earth / connection somewhere,

look in the DOBLO section for more 1.3 info,

Charlie

Re: Help with an EGR Valve?!

1. I certainly wouldn't be cleaning a 1.3 EGR i'd be replacing it due to it's awkward location.
2. Is your battery good?
3. Did you fit genuine or cheap glow plugs?

Re: Help with an EGR Valve?!

EGR' problems usually cause a rough running
As they let in exhaust gasses when they shouldn't

or if they fail, they dont allow the flow in, and the car picks up on it = EML

Glowplugs only work based on what the cars temperature is
So if its hot = they dont warm up, if they do its a second or two

When its cold, you wait for the glow plug light to go out, doing it a few times also helps getting the heat nice and hot

Re: Help with an EGR Valve?!

I brought genuine bosch fiat glow plugs, I've also replaced the relay. The battery appears to be fine (had it checked). If its an earthing problem any ideas where it might be?

Battery checked by who?

Get another battery/car and jump leads and connect to your battery, is fault still there?

Re: Help with an EGR Valve?!

Put a jump lead from battery negative to the block. Also ensure there is no corrosion or oil preventing the plugs from earthing out properly.

Report back if that works.
