Hi all! I'm a new owner of a 500 lounge 1.2 dualogic that I picked up a week ago. I've spent a lot of time on these forums and have found some exceptionally useful information so far that has helped me understand a few things better :)

I do love the car a whole lot, I've been wanting one for a good year or more and I did test drive three of these including this one before committing to buying, but I have one slight issue I'm still trying to figure out and don't know if this is a technical thing or whether I just can't drive it properly! There have been a few occasions in the last week where the car and I have not been totally in synch when pulling away from a brief stop, like the brief pause at a minor junction or a roundabout before pulling off again. I can only describe the issue as 'bunny hopping' as it pulls away. Had one pretty awful moment today pulling on to a roundabout where it just lurched out and did it's little bunny hops before settling down. Embarrassing, and probably not good for the car :(

I've come to some kind of conclusion that this happens when the car is about to power down with the SS when I then interrupt that by accelerating. I have tried to overcome it by putting the gearbox in manual mode, but it still happens as per today. I have not yet tried switching off the SS as most of the time it works fine, but I can see it coming at this rate.

Anyone else experienced issues where it doesn't actually have time to power down fully? Is that what this is likely to be or is there something else I could be missing? I'm not a 'hard' driver so I don't think this is a case of accelerating too hard when pulling off, but this small issue is making me pretty nervous now whenever I have to stop briefly anywhere and that's not helping!

Any tips thoroughly welcomed!

I've caught mine (an '11 TA Manual) out a couple of times, where it's cut the engine just as I re-push the clutch to engage a gear, then let the clutch out and it dies and then starts again.

There is a S&S thread (it's enormous) which might be worth a read. Get your car in to FIAT for the S&S update too, as this will let you turn it off permanently if you want, rather than having the push the disable button at the start of each journey. It also seems to improve the logic a little - I've got a 1.2 manual as a courtesy car at the moment and it's a '62 plate with the latest engine management software, and the S&S seems a lot more 'seamless'..

Thanks. I've read through that thread but that seems to be more around the SS not functioning a lot of the time which is not something I've really experienced. It's really just this loss of power while it seems to dither over the stopping aspect that's a pain. Today's incident actually made me feel quite unsafe as it messed about pulling onto a large roundabout and I do not want this to be something that puts me off the car. I'll call Fiat tomorrow about the update (nice of them not to tell me about that when I bought it!) and in the meantime I'll disable the SS and see how that changes things for the time being :)

Sadly, you can't really blame them, it's not a 'recall' as such, it's a tech service bulletin, so is normally carried out when the car receives its service. I've only provoked the 'dither' once or twice, so wouldn't class it as a major issue - but then I have a manual car, so can't comment on the Dualogic.

You will probably find the S&S is a bit 'tetchy' when the weather is cold, which this update also supposedly tackles. I say supposedly, because it's a relatively new update, and one person has reported that it appeared not to fix that issue. I'll let you know how I find my car when I get it back next week..
