Just wondering how many others have a Twin Air Punto and think the mpg is a really let down.
Has anyone tried to challenge this as I am at the moment through trading standards and Fiat. Although Fiat still think it's because the car is not driven in ideal conditions etc and 35 mpg is acceptable if you get this at best.

Well if it's brand new, not fully ran in and in Winter conditions you are going to loose MPG. My Mulitjet diesel is down from nearly 60mpg to under 40 at the moment.

Done 6000 now and still no better. I traded in my 2.0 litre Focus tdi in for it that did 50. Feel that Fiat have well and truly miss sold the mpg. I appreciate that I'm not going to get 60 but maybe high 50s at least.

Not in this cold weather you're not.

But I completely agree Fiat & every car maker I can think of give their 'optimum' MPG figures made in a lab and not to real world conditions.

I think sat at 65-70mph Utah Eco button on motorway driving and returning 37mpg this morning is awful. No frost or wind today. Fiat stated that they test drive only one car in ideal conditions and get these figures. Wish I could see that one car and swap it!!!

is 37mpg a dash reading?

Drive more slowly. The gearing for a TA in a car like the Punto will mean it's probably turning at quite a high speed at 70 - I find even in my 500 Twin Air, the peak economy is at around 55-60mph, and that's a car that's a good few kg's lighter than a Punto.

Pretty sure the OP's punto is a 6 speed against your 500's 5 speed,
- unsure of Ratio's though,
that's why I queried their punto's RPM at @ 68 MPH in the other thread they started,

hoping for better MPG in mine,
considering running mine in on Mineral oil to get decent bedding in,

Number of gears is irrelevant - that's just to cope with the narrow torque peak of an engine designed for a smaller/lighter car. I suspect the road speed per 1000 engine rpm is lower in the Punto than the 500 somehow, as the engine simply won't have the torque to pull in a higher gear.

I'm doing the calculations from the Eco drive software and my own. I'm getting 375 miles from a full tank at best and 325 without the Eco on. People say on here sitting at 55 - 60 on a motorway and i will see a better return. Brilliant I agree but it's not safe to be doing them speeds on a motorway and you will certainly have traffic police stopping you asking what the problem is.

traffic police wont stop you for doing 55-60 mph unless you are sitting in the middle lane doing it when left lane is empty.

have tyre presures been checked?

Trust me I work very close to them and if your holding up HGVS then your worth a pull...

Tyre pressure is bang on. Lets just face it I've been sold a vehicle that will get no where near the advertised mpg. My cousin has a 1.2 punto 1 year old and this gets 45 ish no problem.

hgvs are restricted to 56 and even if they havent got a restrictor they are not allowed to do over 60 so you wont be holding them up doing 60

Well it's not really going to happen unless your a 80 year old who can't see 25 yards in front.

The whole issue and point is that a 1.2 shouldn't be getting more to the gallon than this fantastic new engine fiat have.

No1 has actually said if they are finding the same with theirs or maybe they haven't sold so many.

Careful driving is the key as others have said.
My 500 twin air can get 65 mpg quite easily at the speeds suggested on the motorway. I'd say that a punto would be a better shape aerodynamically so can't see why you couldn't do the same?

My average is currently 47mpg as you can see below. It was better in the warmer months by about 15%.

with the 500's at least ,the 1.2 is more economical, and the 1.4 is worse. Twin air sits between both mpg wise, but has the advantage of near 1.4 performance with near 1.2 economy dependingon how you drive it.

My 500 is at exactly 9750 miles. Not yet had an oil change, it was 1st registered April 24th 2012

that also answers a query I had about whether you get a free "oil-change service" after a few thousand miles.. not sure I would want all the "assembly debris" floating around my engine for potentially 18,000 miles,

Quite a few people with the twin air have changed their oil early for the same reasons you've given. There is no free service at 1000 miles or whatever like days of old.

Like i've said in other threads, the MPG is not what they stated. My Punto TA is currently getting 36 MPG in these cold coditions. What I will say is that I drive Urban roads with the start-stop, slow moving, and hill starts.. that cripples my MPG.

On a quiet evening on a 30mph road I can easily get 55MPG on the trip computer, but to get this as an average requires luck and forward planning.

I think everyone here would be interested in seeing what Fiat do. I was told once my engine "breaks in" I would see an increase, granted its only at 1300 miles, but from what I've heard the next 5000 miles won't make a difference.

Do you know in your dealings with Trading Standards whether there is a % they can be out? As on Motorways I'm almost 3 times less the MPG they stated.

(That said, still love my car )
