Tried to post this twice but can find it anywhere????? Here gos again!! Can anyone tell me if a hgt column is the same as any other punto? Need to replace mine as power steering is playing up and tried the motor resoldering and relays etc and not worked? Thanks again in advance

Well being as though I didn't actually get any help I will fill it in myself!! I'm sure some other poor soul will be struggling with the same problems as me! I changed the steering column completely and had it recalibrated etc and still the same problem! Tried absolutely everything and spent hours on here trawling thru to no avail! Had diagnostics on it three times and no errors coming up? Then I decided to recheck my battery and lo and behold one of the earth wires attached wasn't quite screwed on tight enough so everytime I went round a corner it lost connection and hence the power steering failing then coming back. So the moral of this story seems to be make sure you double check all the simple things first before you assume it's a doom and gloom option! At least I have learnt even more about puntos so better keep my hgt as there's not much left to go wrong now lol

To be fair the reason you got no help was probably because nobody could give you a definitive answer as to whether it is a straight swap.
I certainly wasn't sure and ive changed most things on puntos but dont do hgt's.

With regards your position being that it turned out to be a faulty earth cable i think you will find this is so well documented by many including myself that one tends to get into broken record scenario

I looked at it as well but simply didn't know. If you had mentioned symptoms you would have gotten my broken record which is all about batteries. Even if the column is in flames I would be muttering on about supply voltage.

I never saw this thread - sorry.

The steering wheel fits both the HGT and the 1.2 8v if that offers any help? Also, in order to continue the sarcasm trend, I shall point out that a quick parts search on google (or even a phone call to a fiat dealership) will solve your question :)

no sarcasm from me but to put your post in context the steery wheel wasnt the issue i would be concerned with it would whether the downshaft was unique to the hgt because it might well be seeing as its a car of its own we wouldnt want it to be fitted if lock to lock was incompatable with the presumably different ratios fitted on a hgt steering rack
i dont know, brendan doesnt know ,so in the best interests of safety we like others didnt talk but not have our pants on

as regards ringing fiat dealership and asking them you may as well put your underpants on your head and sing la la la i love you
as for ebay they mostly just tell you what you want to here so they get your wonga

ok:)

no offence

I was joking about the steering wheel :p As far as sarcasm goes, classchick started getting a little fussed up when nobody answered the thread, which was uncalled for as it was obvious nobody could solve the problem.

I would have thought that the dealership or even a fiat MOT/Service centre would be able to give you an opinion as to whether it would fit, bearing in mind they are supposed to be specialists in fiat parts?

In terms of a part search there are indexes on the web that give you part numbers for every part of every car, so surely you could check the part number of the steering column and compare for both cars?

No offence taken, probably didn't say what I meant in the way that I should. Thats what you get for typing while trying to sound interested in what your girlfriend has to say

Well guys thanks for all the input, and I did change the column and not even sure what punto it actually came off to be honest just went for it! Glad to say my steering wheel fit no problem and it calibrated up fine so at least we know that the hgt is no different to any other punto(apart from the power lol) so glad it worked as the thought of her going to the scrapyard was soul destroying! That and the thought of ending up with a golf instead!! Hubby has an Audi tt but I still prefer my hgt. Anyway thanks for the info x

ive got a steering column here should have saw this sooner haha...
all you need to check to make sure they work correctly is the 4 digit number on the steering ECU.
I suspect you got that correctly for it all to work :)

ive got a few too
its 99% usually the mota mota
