Hello, my plan is to replace my archaic, asthmatic 1275 A+ Mini engine with something a bit more modern that has 5 gears and makes around 70-90 bhp.
I know that 2.0L Vauxhall 16v and Honda V-Tec conversions are very popular but I dont want to go that fast so after looking at other small (sub 1400) engines ive decided on a Mk1 Punto 75.
I originally thought that a 1242 16v was the way to go but after reading lots of threads on various Fiat forums and reading about the limitations of the hydraulic cam followers decided on a P75.
Ive managed to source the front bulkhead and subframe from a scrap Mini to allow me to chop and weld to my heats content before fitting thr completed subframe and P75 engine into a my Mini.
Ive also sourced a knackered Punto 5 speed gearbox to use for setting clearances and sorting mounts and will shortly be getting a P60 engine with a blown head gasket to join to the box.
Ive got a P75 head and 866 cam which I may fit to the P60 bottom end if the block is OK.
My plan includes retro fiting the engine with a Uno distributor and. 32mm motorbike carbs to do away with the ECU, im lucky in that my petrolhead friends run kit cars with various engine/carb combinations so they have a lot of experience of getting manifolds made and setting up ect....
I realise that a Fiat engine in a Mini may not be very popular around here but its only Fiat technical question ill be asking.

Sounds like a great little project (y) I know 'MR FIX IT' is doing something similar engine wise (ie. P75 but with carbs and dizzy etc) but for a classic fiat rather than a mini, sure he'd be able to help you with any queries, he is a member on here as well but not an active poster.

The cinq/sei peeps are very knowledgeable in these engines as well and its is a much more active part of the forum if your struggling for answers to stuff you may try asking in there if you don't get what your after in our humble mk1 punto section.

edit: Oh, and good luck! Would love to see some progress pictures as you go if your so inclined to post up some pics.
