Well not so much new as back after long absence Fiat Multipla bit the dust 2 years ago after 250000 miles but now have two daughters driving Fiats.(Punto ,seicento)
Punto mk 2 wont go into gear clutch pedal seems to have full pressure and range,no leaks obvious at slave cylinder and what I think is the master cylinder( sticking out of engine bulkhead.)I am assuming clutch kit required would that seem reasonable.manage to force into gear to get car home last night.

Any advice readily accepted.

Have you tried bleeding the clutch? it shares the same reservoir as the brakes so if the brake fluid has ever gotten low then air could have been pumped into the clutch.

another potential problem is oil leaking from the engine or gearbox into the clutch housing and getting into the clutch material causing it to swell you're then you're unable to disengage the clutch. which requires a new clutch and a new oils seal of some variety

firstly you need to get someone to push the clutch pedal as you watch the plastic rod move from the slave cylinder to move the thrust bearing arm
then go from there

I have watched while the thrust bearing arm is moved it seems to move ok,It looks as if it has a normal range of movement.

If your pedal pressure is ok it's probably the clutch itself. The release bearing is tiny on puntos (and peugeot/citroens) and chews through the pressure plate. Sometimes the torsion springs in the centre plate break out and jam up as well. All cured by a new clutch!

I have ventured into the unknown.I have started clutch change, removed drive shaft and gearstick linkages and cables and all but three bolts one on the gear box and two on the mount.I have noticed the engine/gearbox mount is fairly shot so that will have to go also.I am attempting this on my own any advice as to how to lower the bell housing I have a trolley jack two bottle jacks and one axel stand.

regards

dessie

Well so far so good gearbox and bell housing out set a smallish board on two car jacks and trolley jack and slid gearbox out on to the board and lowered jacks down and bobs your uncle gearbox dout and down no broken bones as yet.Pressure plate is broken so new clutch kit today starting refit/rebuild tonight/tomorrow( need to check with personal secretary if I have the time free.LOL)

Well at long last clutch replaced car rebuilt all working as should be(so far).Quite a big job but with some care and attention with some brute force and ignorance can be done. Most difficult part was getting gearbox up and on.I leaned over passenger wing and lifted box,son had control of trolley jack under neath and wife had hold of rope I put around box so while very comical it worked.
