Hi YES I am a Newbie. I just bought a 1980 2000 spider FI. Pinn. This car needed a head gasket which was easy to find. The problem that I had was that I didn't know about auxiliary pulley. When it started it had a rap. I backed it out of my garage and parked it. How much damage could this mistake have caused?

Hi, Welcome to the FF.

Not sure about US spec. vehicles, but UK versions used the same auxilliary shaft thoroughout the range. It not only drives the oil pump but also has a cam-lobe to operate the carburettor versions mechanical fuel pump. If the auxilliary shaft and sprocket are not aligned correctly, the lobe can collide with the number 2 piston connecting rod.

The timing mark (a small hole) in the auxilliary shaft sprocket should be set at 33º North-East when at TDC and the camshaft sprockets aligned.

Depending on how far adrift it was, worst case scenario is a bent connecting rod. :(
