Hey everyone :)
Basically, I recently bought a 53 plate Fiat Punto, it's my first car and i just passed my test recently, so i don't really know much about cars lol

my dad drove my car, and then put a steering lock on, so i couldn't turn the wheel or the key. after figuring how to get that off, i turned the keys to start the engine, but nothing happens, all the lights come on but the engine won't start, so i'm stuck, does anybody know what's up? oh and if it helps, every other time I've drove the car, I've had no problems at all. Any help will be greatly appreciated! :)

Is there an imobilizer on the car? Do you have to hit a button on a keyfob or anything before starting? (I have to do this in my Escort van)

Is there any noises when you try and turn the key? Like a clicking under the bonnet? Or do the lights on the dash dim? This would suggest flat battery?

It might be worth giving the starter motor ( That will probably be on the right side of the engine ) a whack as sometimes the solenoid sometimes gets sticky and doesn't do as it's supposed to :p

I don't actually have the key fob for it yet, I just have the key, but I am getting the key fob tomorrow, so I will try that tomorrow.

When I start the car, it makes a buzzing noise from the starter motor, so when I rang my local garage, they thought it was a relay on the starter motor (that makes no sense to me, but it may make sense to you) and they did mention the solenoid, so I think this may be my issue. Before I purchased the car, it did have a new starter motor placed like a month ago.

Thanks for your help, someone from my garage is coming out tomorrow to take a look at it, and hopefully get it running again :)
