Hi everyone I am driving a 2002 1.2 Seat Ibiza at the moment. Just joined up to learn a bit about the Grande Punto really. See what people have done, engines, tuning and what's available in modifications

I am interested in getting one next year (when insurance has another year no claims + saved up some money) but will need convincing. Basically it is between a newer 1.9tdi Seat Ibiza or a Grande Punto.

So...see you round :)

Punto comes with a rock solid pedal-box for a start lol! My 1.9 MJet Grande was mapped to 194Bhp with 263ft lbs of torque for £200... and I still had the economy. Never let me down in 4 years & 74,000 miles... I am also on Seatcupra.net & sadly all of what I just said is not true of Seat cars... did you take any convincing to buy a Seat?

If you have any doubts dont... leave the Fiats to those who love them... (y)

Haha don't know if I would trust myself with that much power! I just ended up with a Seat really when browsing for a car. Was something different that was within my budget at the time..within the first week the timing chain slipped. More recently had to sort out the suspension, anti roll bars, bushes bla bla...bushes need doing again now. (had the car just over a year)

I definitely think I will be getting a Grande Punto. Every time I see one can't help but stare. Think I would be looking at a 1.9MJet like you had. But even the smaller 16v engines don't look to shabby

The 8v is truly aweful but i wouldnt dismiss the 1.4 turbo. Plenty of guts as sandard, having a turbo tunabilty is high and the insurance co wont bend you over and lube you up. sharing the same base engine to the abarth there is plenty that you can do there too.
Then you wont have that diesel noise.

Agreed also as well as being the 1.4 Turbo its 0-62 is 8.9 seconds, and its insurance group 6, similar Suzuki Swift sport 1.6 is same 0-62 and its group 9.

Turbo means put your foot down and boost and it goes, no boost you get 1.4 style economy. can do 50mpg extra urban, rated at 40.9 combined.

Thanks for all the info the 1.4 turbo doesn't sound to bad at all. 1,4 petrol Seat is about 13 seconds 0-62. Obviously like you said volxstu insurance is the biggest problem. But should be getting second year no claims in feb (touch wood dont crash now) so hopefully that will open up the options

Knew I shouldnt have joined until I had the money want one now ;)
