Hi all,

My first car was a 1977 Fiat 127 Mk 2 1050. My late Father and I shopped around for a car for what felt like months and finally we found the little Fiat and he agreed to let me buy it. He taught me to drive in it and together we repaired it whenever anything went wrong.

We sold it when I got my licence and bought what my Father thought was a more sensible and more reliable car (which gave me more trouble than the Fiat ever did!). I was glad at the time to be getting a bigger and later model car, but sad about selling the Fiat. I had loved it every day I had it - was always spotlessly clean and well polished.

When the day came to pick up the new car, the Fiat was used as a trade-in and from the day I left it at the car yard I didn't ever see it again... For 12 years... Until yesterday! :)

I've moved states and come back to Tassie... the car was sold at one end of the state, but has now turned up down here in Hobart. Was driving home last night and on the highway in front of me there it was on the back of a car trailer. MkIIs were never actually sold in Australia - this one had been a private import by a lady who migrated from the UK, so I was sure it was my old car. Got a little closer and recognised the registration number - still the same as when I had it.

So... couldn't help myself. Followed the car and trailer for about 25 kms until the driver arrived home. After a short conversation with the owner, he offered me the car for a couple of hundred dollars and now it's sitting in my carport!

Looking rather worse for wear - the previous owner was oveseas and the car hasn't been run for 6 years. The body is still reasonably intact - 1 or two minor dings. Rust is fairly minimal and the paint is very chalky, but should respond ok to a good cut and polish for now. Interior is still much the same as when I owned it the first time, thankfully... but the seat upholstery was only "just" back then. Door linings, dash and original vinyl floor mats still looking very very good.

Going to take a lot of work to get it back on the road, but very much looking forward to it!

Would be pleased to hear from any other 127 owners or Fiat fans.
