I have a recurring problem with my fiat punto 1.2 (registered Jan. 06 ) the electrics on the dashboard fail for two seconds and then start again. The radio, speedomoter, fuel gauge, engine thermomoeter and all warning lights click off. I have returned it to the garage who try different things like replacing the steering column, but the problem always happens again a month or two later. Although concerning it has always only happened for a few seconds and I have taken it into the garage a day or so later but today it stopped for 45 minutes. Today I think the fuel cut off switch was tripped which was why it would not start again for so long.

Any suggestions? or Has anyoine else experienced this?

This is a bit speculative, but something I found by chance at the weekend.

Check the thick +ve (red) cable connection on the battery post, the one that feeds the fusebox. Mine was loose by 2 turns, its held down by a single nut, a nylock I believe.
Worth a look, although all I was suspicious about was my intermittent alarm for high coolant temperature. Seems to have fixed that though so far, but everything electrical now seems much better such as the power steering and starting. Good Luck. (y)
