Hi there,

We will shortly be acquiring a new Fiat Doblo in the UK and importing it to France. (Given the current state of the pound versus the euro, there's no choice!)

I know I will have to alter the headlights to get it registered in France, but does anyone know if the headlight unit is adaptable without being completely replaced? (This feature exists in some makes of car I believe)

If I need to change the headlights, is this a very simple job, or will I have to use a garage mechanic?

I drove around in Poland for a year and a bit in a UK citroen with no problem - all I did was to stick on the adhesive lens modifier thingies. After a year, the car came up for registration etc., by which time I'd found headlights from one of Poland's many scrappies. They were about 12 quid for the pair :)
My understanding is, under eu law, if your car is registered in the country it came from, you have a year to play with.
PS - changing headlamps in most modern fiats is a doddle, if you have access to someone with slim fingers.

Hi, I'm in the same boat, seems like they have to be changed, I've picked up a pair for €100, other than that the cheapest new ones I found were €125 each. I think you can go and get the CT and then you have a couple of months to get the work done. You also need a certificate of conformity which you get from fiat HQ in the UK before you can reg. in France. Good luck!!
