Approx 2 weeks ago we let the fuel level run down until the dash board warning light for low fuel came on. After I put some fuel in the tank, I noticed that another light had suddenly started to come on. It is red and we believe that it is the injector light. The car is now running on 3 cylinders.
The local garage (not fiat expert) has diagnosed 2 poss causes -
The wiring from injector to engine may have snapped be loose.
The injector has packed up.
Have been quoted a minimum of 3 hours labour just to strip down engine to get at parts, then find out cause and fix it.
The bill would be around the £300 level.
Does anyone on this forum board have a) the instructions for this job and how long it realistically should take for a competant mechanic
b) If we could DIY the job
c) Should we find a fiat dealer/garage who should be familiar with car and fix it quicker?
We do not have much spare cash and we need the cheapest quickest option. Thankx in advance.

If you suspect the problem is related to the fuel being allowed to run low (sometimes gunk in the fuel tank can get sucked up) it may have blocked an injector or a feed point in the fuel system. There is a fuel filter which *should* stop it but I've had problems with Cinqs where tank rust has passed the filter and caused problems. Throw a can of injector cleaner (from your local auto factors) in at the next fill and see if it helps. Check that a plug lead hasn't come loose and also check your spark plugs are in good order. You could also drain the fuel filter (carefully - its petrol remember!) and see if a lot of gack is trapped on the tank side. Replace it if its bad.

My money is on the blocked injector, but you would need to run the car with the low-fuel light on for 20 miles to really get a lot of dirt up. Its not something I've seen on our Multi but it is common on Cinqs.

reasonable competent some directions would be helpful then i can see if i can do it my self or not . Thanks Mark

Finally fixed problem at a FIAT dealer, who confirmed that it was number 4 injector not working.
Price £ 270.26 for anyone who has similar problem.
Approx 3 hours work involved. Even washed car as well.
