Technical Multipla Recall Front Springs Breaking

Technical Multipla Recall Front Springs Breaking

Found out the spring has collapsed, not broken, or the wrong one was fitted last year before I bought the car.

I have a 6 year old diesel Multipla and have just had the MOT done, it failed on the front drivers side spring being broken this was only detected after the car had been jacked up on the ramp then when lowered it became apparent that the drivers side was a touch lower so after further investigation they spotted the spring was broken on the end coil there are no noises or anything different in the way the car handles. My garage is quite reasonable and will fit a replacement for £81 parts and labour, however I will first see if Fiat will consider the job for free?

This thread was started nearly eight years ago and is still active. I have just finished reading it in full and have found it most interesting and, to tell the truth, a bit alarming.

We purchased our 2004 115 ELX JTD (yes - with twin sunroofs) in 2010 and noted from the service records that both front springs were replaced in 2009. As to whether or not this was due to breakage or carried out as a precaution I cannot say - the chassis number does not fall within the recall.

My question is this: Is there a case for having the springs periodically changed on safety grounds?

This is a bit of an odd request, but:

If anyone has what they know for certain to be Fiat springs fitted to the front of their Multipla, can you do me a favour and count the number of complete turns of wire there are in one of of them?

Sorry WMF, only just seen this.
If it's not too late, I'm just in the middle of doing my Strut Tops (replacing).
Right side went OK, but just found the left Spring is broken (n)
Approx 4.5 full turns on mine, I'm assuming they're the originals.
I'll post a pic a bit later.

Anyone know if Fiat are still covering replacement Springs?

Replacements are by Lesjofors, Swedish.
Not sure why, but the R/H Strut now seems to bottom out easily, only replaced the Top Mount on that side.
