got my fiat out of the garage this am and heard a weird noise coming from the rear on looking i noticed this has come unattached, is this an easy fix ? or what does it do ? my mot is due next week so need to fix it if i can, is it safe to drive ? thanks
John

Safe to drive, but a MOT fail. Needs reattached. A rubber to stop the vehicle bottoming out. I drove around like that for ages before I had time to fix it, different car mind.

The proper name is a bump stop.

A tester who sits on the vosa consultation panel told me a couple of weeks ago that bump stops are no longer part of mot test.
I can't zoom in on your picture to see exactly what is going on.
If bump stop has detached due to corrosion of the bump stop mount that will likely be an mot fail as it's close to spring mounting.

If it's just bump stop dropped glue it back in place prior to mot , not all tester will be up to date.

I didn’t know it’s no longer a fail Jack. Handy to know.

need a bit of help how to disassemble the spring,John

ok how do i get it back in ?
If it has just fallen off , leave spring in place , jack up and support body on side working on, working between could of spring put glue on bump stop and stick it to bump stop seat. Wedge something under bump stop to hold in place while while glue sets.

thanks will give it go, how does number 8 attach ?

If it is the rubber upper spring isolator ring then it sits on the top of the spring. Weight of vehicle keeps it in place.

ok just an update on the bump stop, it has a small amount of metal attached to the top so i assume it has gone rotten where it sits into, is this an easy fix ? what do i need to get so the bump stop can be fitted again,John

just an update the multipla passed it's mot with the bump stop loose inside the spring .John

Great news(-:
Good it didn't fail on corrosion too near the upper spring mount(-:

i am getting it welded up next week just to be safe though,John

My '04 nosejob has been exactly the same problem since I got it 6 years ago.
It came up as an MOT advisory once.
