Hi help needed our multipla has cutout just as we were changing gear up hill and I was as though some one had turned the ignition off had to have recovery as rac man said was diesel pump the garage 2 pumps and some mention the inertia switch could any body tell us where it is and how to check it please

According to handbook for 2001 Jtd its behind that small tray below steering wheel near pedals, cuts fuel of in event of an accident but large bump or jolt could also activate it.

Turn ignition key..

IF you can hear the pump in the rear tank whirr..

Then the inertia switch is fine.

Hi they've replace both pumps there now saying its a electrical fault they saying they start it and it blows the fuse for the management system every time

Two fuel pumps!! Sounding expensive to me!! Sounds like a short to earth on the wiring harness, I'd start with a very careful check of the engine harness for chafing and damage, its also a quick job to remove the ecu cover in the passenger side footwell but assume thats been done to change the fuse.... Good luck.

Hi they've change both as I don't think they new which or what was the problem, rac guy just told them it was diesel pump so they've done them both they say it's electrical. It's cost us a £1000 even before the auto electrical has a look

Thanks for the help £1300 later its fixed it was a wire under dash that had rubbed and broke

Glad to hear your Multipla jas been fixed but to change both fuel pumps seems a rediculous expense as either could have easily been tested and eliminated as the cause, when they changed the pump (high pressure) on the engine did they do the cambelt at the same time as this would have to be removed? Not that good on the legal side of things but I would be asking for a big discount as sounds like "diagnosis by substitution" to me. At least its running but what a cost??

If it is an RAC scheme garage.. and the patrolman dropped the multithere.

Get onto The RAC.. there is no way they should have changed the HP pump without prooer diagnostics.

Hope its better than its ever been :)
