Does anyone know how important the head gasket thickness is on a 105 JTD?
According to other forums there were between 5 and 7 different thicknesses available at one time and one should use the correct replacement.
I will need to do two in the future so if anyone has had the experience, I would be very grateful for any info you have!
Cheers
Mike

There are 3 different thicknesses of head gasket for the JTD engines. You need to replace it with the same thickness gasket that's already fitted to your engine.

For the 105 hp engine, the Fiat parts catalogue lists the 3 thicknesses as:
0.82mm marked without notch/holes.
0.92mm marked with 1 notch/hole.
1.02mm marked with 2 notches/holes.

The notches or holes are cut into one edge of the gasket so you can identify it's thickness.

Alternatively, you can measure the pistons protrusion above the engine block as described in the Elring Technical Service document below.

The gaskets shown in the documents are not for the JTD engine. They are just to show where the notches or holes could be.
