morning one and all

first post so go gentle ;) (also apologies if this q has been asked before)

had a hole in the flexi part of the exhaust downpipe

car engine management light came on and car went into limp mode (3000 revs)

called out auto aid and they diagnosed an issue with the dpf but said prob linked to issue with exhaust

i have had the exhaust part replaced

car was still in limp mode but when driving back car started to rev higher and seemed to clear

the next day took car out and tho engine light was on car seemed to rev and pull normally

drove where i could in third at around 3>3500 rev to try to regen the dpf

all was ok for around 15 > 20 mins then it went back into limp mode

now car will run fine for 130 sec after turning on ignition then go into limp mode

i have taken car to a local garage for a forced regen but they cannot get car to run regen cycle as they think the dpf is to clogged/blocked

i see the that there are 2 pipes that go to the dpf, are these pressure sensors?

if these where disconnected from dpf and just put to atmosphere would this stop the fault/car going into limp mode

just after a temp fix as away on holiday and would get sorted once home

thank you in advance for any advice/info

The problem with disconnecting pipes is that you end up with exhaust fumes being vented into the engine bay, where they will find their way into the cabin, this can lead to very nasty serious problems such as carbon monoxide poisoning or trigger respiratory problems. Is it really the DPF or is it a turbo problem? If you’re on holiday I’m gonna assume you did a fair mileage to get there, if the DPF was blocked it would have taken that opportunity to run a regen when the exhaust was nice and hot. If it really is the DPF Is just too blocked then the only option is a replacement.

DPF cleaning additives for the fuel help by lowering the temperature needed for the particulates to burn off in the DPF, you could maybe try this as an option for the time being if you’re able to hobble along at 3.5k revs.

I certainly wouldn’t look at disconnecting any pipe work and even removing sensors would leave a path for fumes to find their way into the cabin.

Disconnecting the sensors would more than likely immediately put the car in limp mode.

I’ve also just bought an 08 and had the DPF lamp come on and go into limp mode.
I’ve used the Redex DPF cleaner on the last 2 tanks of fuel and it’s definitely getting better.
Having done some reading since, I’m shocked how bad DPF and Re-Gens are for your engine - I’ll be changing my oil regularly until I decide what to do about the whole EGR/DPF thing...

If you do enough miles it should never be much of a problem.

My cars very rarely regen as I am always doing at least 30 miles on every run to work or I to town up and down A roads and dual carriageways so any little amount of soot that builds up running down the shop occasionally about 1km a way it easily burnt off the next day on my way to work.

If you do a lot of short journeys all week then these days a diesel is not for you.

My 3 year old 50k mile golf, Euro 6 engine still has a spotlessly clean exhaust pipe even after all that distance

k thank you for responses

i had already purchased some wynn dpf cleaner fluid

was on hols on isle of wight so no real roads which i could give car a good drive at constant speed

came home yesterday, once off the ferry in Portsmouth and on to the m27 in a higher gear, within a mile car picked up and drove as usual

whilst away i sourced a odb2 bluetooth reader and i had this plugged in

was running a fiat dpf app on my phone which was showing 105% clogged

as driving app showed regen taking place along with a percentage

once regen had completed app then showed dpf @13% (y)

after a 125 mile drive dpf was showing 27%

does the car run an auto regen automatically? and if so is it at a certain percentage level?

k thread Resurrection.

k from time to time engine light coming on and going into limp mode again

with an odb2 reader it is showing a p2002 fault

"P2002 diesel particulate filter efficiency below threshold"

with the odb2 reader in and running an dpf app it shows that the dpf is only 30% odd blocked

can take the car for a run and eventually it will regen and the dpf blocked reading will drop to 11% and run fine

at the moment car engine light is on and in limp mode

car idles oddly, not constant but up and down

any ideas plz?

thank you in advance
