Hi everybody,
I found alternator warning on the dash of my Muiti
"alternator malfunction contact garage"was shown.
Anyone, tell me what kind of trouble has caused in my multipla 1.6 petrol.

The warning light comes on when i rev the engine around 2000 - 3000 rpm while the engine is cold.

See the video linked:

The warning never comes on after the engine is hot enough.
The alternator has worked for a few years / for only 20000 miles.:bang:

I changed alternator a few years back because the old one stopped working when my mileage was about 40000 miles.

I think its malfunction might be caused by heat from the exhaust manifold located next to the alternator in the case of petrol models.
That lay out is so rubbish,i hate exhaust manifold located behind the engine.(n)

I measured voltage,14.2 - 14.3v idle + head light +fan ,
14.3v at 3000 rpm , nothing strange was found and mine is running comfortably everyday except for annoying noisy warnings.

Anyone help me out!

Check all electrical connections and wires to alternator . Pay attention to the thin wire.

Check big -ve wire from battery to body and to engine.

Thanks for your reply.
Will do tomorrow.

Does thin wire mean one to L pole of the alternator?

It is more likely to be labelled D+ and it comes from the battery warning light.

if all the wires are in good condition and connections clean, try removing the regulator assembly from the alternator . If the spring loaded carbon contacts are worn out try and replace them or find a new replacement regulator assembly or replace alternator complete.

bosch part number for regulator is FOOMA45206

Whoa!
I'll check them then will upload here in the near future thx!!

>bosch part number for regulator is FOOMA45206
Brilliant!!

OBTW I have checked voltage yesterday while driving mine with the engine still cold and the alternator produces only 13.5V with no electronic devices turned on such as headlights or air-conditioner.
I feel something wrong with the alternator, meanwhile it also produces 13.9v when the engine is warmed up tho.
but--
This voltage is a bit lower than that i measured several days ago.
It must be getting worse.

I am happy with your reaction ?
You may be able to remove the regulator without removing the alternator, depends on access to back of alternator.
The thin wire to d+ attaches to the regulator , then two (maybe 3) screws holding regulator to alternator.
Remember to disconnect battery -ve wire before working on alternator.

Oh, forgot to say we both have multipla of the same colour:)

I do appreciate your quickest response!
In fact I've pulled it out and am planning to install new one for Brava 1996 with a fresh air duct.
Massive wave of annoying heat from exhaust manifold may cause failure on the alternator so I bought that item which can resolve "the heat problem".

Anyhow,I'll check what you mentioned.

Same colour?
Mine is in Way Blue.

What's your engine?
same petrol one?

Brava 1996 should fit ok.

Bosch part number previously posted may be correct, if you need to confirm search Google images with Bosch number.

I couldn't be 100% certain because fiat part numbers for Japan market alternators don't cross reference with alternator component part suppliers catalogue, sorry.

Catalogue says Europe bravo 1996 alternator will fit Europe multipla.

My blue same as your blue buy different name
Mine jtd

JTD! we don't have JTD models in Japan officially, what kind of feeling, plenty of torque? I'd like to drive ones.

Confirmed same engine, same power steering pump, same bracket, and same drive belt between them seen in ePer but there is a slight difference,Mine 2003 petrol has an annoying catalytic converter under the manifold,on the other hand 1996 Brava doesn't have so mine may have a little smaller space for alternator than Bravo, however one of my friend installed an alternator for bravo onto his Multi and no problem has been seen for several years.
In fact I'm longing for exhaust manifold for Brava indeed tho, which should make exhaust flow fast, rev quicker i think.

I will arrange fresh air duct today see pic linked:http://minkara.carview.co.jp/userid/398935/blog/39871697/
will use air intake for heater for house.
