Hi,

Not sure if this is correct but my multipla only goes to 2 bars on the temperature gauge & does not get hot. Even after a 30 min journey at 55 mph.

To me it should get so hot that you need to turn the temp down or switch it of after say 10 mins or so.

It's not leaking any water at all and the coolant is a nice light pinky/red colour. Do i need to change the thermostat? How easy is it to do ?

It does sound like the thermostat is stuck open. Start and run the engine from cold, the thermostat is on the return to the radiator and so the pipe closest to the engine should start to get warm long before the one towards the radiator. If they start getting warm uniformly then the thermostat is stuck open. If the one side gets really hot first then all of a sudden the cold side starts to get warm then the thermostat is working fine.

It comes as part of the complete housing and is not too bad a job to do you just need patience as there are a few things needing moving out the way.

Yes seems like both hoses are at the same temperature. Best get it sorted before it gets cold. How many bars should be lit on the display normally.

I'm no expert but what I would say is that the engine is designed to run at particular temperatures. If these temperatures at reached then the oil will not do its job.

Plus its bloody cold in the winter.(n) I need to get mine done fast, what a stupid design all in one.

Hi All,

Just Thought I would give all an update as to thermostat replacement. Now up from 2 bars to 4 bars. But still not red hot.

The blower fan is rubbish for a car with a big cabin. speed 1 is rubbish, so is 2 and 3 is acceptable and 4 is good.

Another thign is the design of the air flow area's. This time of year you really need to have the front screen demisters as well the front air flow and leg area. Guess what you only get front air flow or front screen or legs or front screen and legs. Utter Rubbish Heated front screen and rear diesel heater would have been a good optional extra.

Also a xlwb version would have been fantastic.

not thought about it before but an xlwb multipla would be a perfect design , say an extra foot or 2 in the length of the boot , and i agree with the blowers i find myself constantly twiddling with air flow

4 bars is the norm. I find the heating in mine quite acceptable. I have the Eleganza with climate control and find that whatever temp I set the system to it will achieve and maintain quite happily. I do agree with you on the fan though, 1 is completely useless. Diesels do take considerably longer to warm up than petrols so you need to factor this in.

Im just comparing the heat levels to a typical ford, the diesels warm up so much so that you got to turn the heat down and open a window. I did it the other day it was 4 or 5 deg outside.

Ive sussed my heat problem in the multipla........Im now wearing a hat and gloves sorted (y):slayer:

Yes this has just happened to me. I too have a Multipla 1.9 jtd elx 2003.

The heating used to be pretty good. Fan speed 2 and up (though noisy).

Did you change the thermostat? Is there a guide anywhere? Moriarty the Mundane for example.

Cheers

Vince

If it's an air con model changing the pollen filter can considerably increase air flow through the blowers. They do get clogged up and restrict the flow.

I found changing the filter up'd my air flow considerably and doing a full coolant flush and change made it heat up like never before. To the point windows had to be opened.
