Hello everyone again.

My clutch pedal has suddenly gone a little weird.
I depress it, but before it actually does its job of disengaging the gears etc, there is a slackness under my foot.

The clutch still operates as usual, but the pedal itself isn't behaving.
When I lift my foot, the pedal only comes up from the floor part of the way, so i tuck my toe under and pull it fully up!

Is this a clutch problem or just the pedal?

I would like to go forearmed before I speak to the garage :) It might cost me less!
Many thank yous!!

I have a 2000 v reg petrol multi 16v

Sounds as though the return spring inside the clutch master cylinder has broken. The simplest way to fix it is to buy a new master cylinder, pull it to pieces to rob it of its return spring, then fit that to the master cylinder that's already fitted to your car. This is MUCH simpler than replacing the entire master cylinder. All the work is done from inside the car (in the drivers footwell).

A bit of a fiddly job, but much less hassle (& expense) than most clutch-related repairs.

Edit: Just noticed yours is a petrol Multi. My comments are for a diesel one. Not sure if the same will apply to the petrol.

Thanks, Widemouthfrog.
As a check, I looked at the clutch/brake fluid level just now in hopes it was just that, because I noticed the gears were getting a little stiffer to engage.
But the level is where is should be.

So, a spring.
Well that would fit the symptoms. I wonder if it is the same for a petrol?
Thanks.
I wonder if I can do it though, that's the prob!!
