I have just been to my local fiat dealer as I had a red warning light come on on my dash, they have diagnosed a turbo overboost valve error and a diesel pressure regulator error! They want £200 to fix the turbo overboost error and say that this may then fix the diesel pressure regulator error but no guarantees and of course to then fix that error if it persists will be another £200 ish.Has anyone else had a similar problem? Is there a way of fixing it rather than replacing it? Any advice would be very very welcome.
Thanks as always

Thanks for the advice, I have had the system reset (£35) and no more red light despite heavy use. I think you might be right about ther dealers wanting to cash in on my anxieties, perhaps I should change my name to disgusted of Eastbourne!!!

Check all pipes first for rotting/loose or splitting as this causes the overboost code.In your case I would want to know why the light came on insteard of just putting the light out & chucking it outside!

Glad that worked. Do keep an eye on things. Clearly if it comes back on, then deeper investigation will be required.

Although not right on my doorstep, I'm lucky to be able to use a skilled Italian car specialist (Gonnella's of Catford). I tie my services in with my occasional visits to the London office - half drive/half train commute.

I have even stopped using the dealer for my "in warranty" servicing (EU have stopped that "you've got to have it serviced at the franchised dealer for your warranty to be valid" lark) of my newer Punto.

Do you have similary skilled people nearby? Maybe somewhere else on the Forum can be your guide.

I just looked under the bonnet I took the black cover off and there is a hose situated on the top of the engine to the right as you look at it. It has slipped off by about 3-5 mm could this be the fault? There seems to be a bit of oil around it is this normal. I think the hose goes to the turbo so I am hoping that replacing this hose will help. Any thoughts!! My multipla is using oil at the moment could this problem be the cause of this?

Without seeing it i'm not sure but sounds like a breather pipe.
Overboost valve sits to the left of the battery (quite low down) with 2 pipes coming from it,one goes down out of view to front of engine infront of radiator, its this one that often gives trouble.
The actual overboost valve often gives trouble & have changed many, more frequently on stilos thesedays.

Right, my Multi has overboost valve erroe on the code reader, but on this forum there is a little confusion as to which the overboost valve is.

Is it:
The solenoid on the inlet under the engine cover
or
The thingymerbob in the wheelarch area? - this is known as a pressure convertor....

Which one do I replace?

might be wrong but i thought the first one was a turbo pressure sensor?

Yes, you are correct Matt, it is a Manifold Air Pressure sensor which the ECU uses to regulate the turbo pressure via the Overboost (VGT) Solenoid Valve (the second ebay link).

If you connect to the ECU using the free FiatEcuScan software and a suitable lead you can experiment with the overboost valve to see if it works.

without it looking like im arguing, (which im not!), the MAP stands for Manifold Absolute Pressure, which is a measurement of vacuum.

So technically, this isnt a MAP sensor, as it measures pressure, not vacuum.

The way i understood things if you have a MAF you dont need a MAP.

where can you get this ecu scan software and appropriate lead then? and by the look if what you said above, you can do active diagnoses with it too?
