I have had a look around here, but I cannot see the answer myself.
Sorry if I have missed it.

My rear wiper arm has been ripped off by a vandal (thanks :( ), and I have a replacement ready to be put on.

Is there something other than the nut to be unscrewed so that I can replace it please?
I have tried and it is really tough.
I don't want to break anything myself!

Any help, I'd be very grateful.

They can be a pain.

What I do is give the thread a spray with WD40, then cover the end of a screwdriver with a rag to stop damage to the bodywork, then slowly try to lever it off. maybe using a thin piece of wood to prevent damage as well.
They usually pop off without too much trouble.
I think there are pullers available for this job.
 
I have given it a spray of WD40 but the nut is too tight to undo.
I cant see where i'd lever it off though. I just assumed id have to unscrew it.
 
The nut will be tight, they get corroded.
The wiper arm pivot piece (the part of yours that's left on the spindle) has a tapered spline, once it's on and the nut's tightened, it won't come off again without some force.
Use a six-sided socket or spanner on the nut, a bi-hex (12-point) socket or spanner will most likely round it off.
Don't even bother trying with an open-ended spanner!

A bit of heat to the nut will help, use a gas torch with a fine nozzle if you have one.
A heat gun will do if that's all you have, just protect the screen with something.

Once the nut's off, you'll need a puller, or as Slobo suggested, lever it off.
You'll need to lever it rearwards, away from the screen, put a couple of pieces of wood against the screen, with cloth under the wood, then lever on the base of the arm with a couple of small tyre levers.

You need two levers ideally, opposite each other, put some pressure on it, then get someone to tap the thread of the spindle with a plastic mallet, it'll help loosen the arm from the splines.
A bit off heat here will help too.

If you don't have a plastic mallet, put the nut back on finger-tight, then back it off until it's level with the end of the thread on the spindle, then use a hammer, carefully.
 
Goodness, looks like i will need to get 'Tooled-Up' in the right meaning of the phrase!
I have a gas powered soldering iron that I can use like a mini Bunsen burner, will that do?

And I think I have a socket set lurking somewhere (unused for years gathering grease) that I can dig out.

Sounds like i'm set for a busy afternoon!

If you can wait a few days, it's worth picking up a proper puller, if you ever need to remove one of the front ones, it's just about impossible without one.

Sorry, I read the post on my phone, that and my old eyes, I didn't see it was the rear wiper.

Be very careful, As Bikedoc says, plenty of rags around the tools.

I think that Bunsen type soldering iron would be just the job for pinpoint heating the wiper.

If you plan on keeping the Multi (or any other car for that matter), it's worth buying tools as and when you need them.
They'll pay for themselves the first time you use them (compared to getting a garage to do the job(s).

If the nut rounds off, then the next option is to split it.
You can get a nut-splitter, or you can carefully drill it to loosen it's hold on the spindle.
Nut Splitters
If you ever need to do anything on the suspension, or exhaust, they'll probably come in handy again.

Drilling can be tricky, particularly on such a small nut, and it's easy to damage the spindle threads.

I was lucky with my rear wiper arm a while ago, it came off using a large screwdriver and a block of wood as a mount to protect the bodywork.
But I had to remove the front wipers on another car last week and for the life off me could not get the arms off, tried everything, only succeeded in removing paint off the arms..and it would have been very easy to crack the windscreen...
So anyway I have just bought a set of windscreen wiper pullers from Ebay, under £10, for future jobs, these are tailor made for the job, and in my mind nothing else will do, have a look on ebay and see how they are designed, these are what screen replacers use for the job, but a lot more expensive.
I imagine they will be lost in my man cave untill I have to do the job again, when I will have already forgotten I bought them 15 years ago...

I kept the wipers off my old Multi, will clean them up and re-paint, then fit to my current one.

After all that help you chaps gave me here, I feel a little sheepish in writing this ...

When I went out in the car the next day, and it was making a loud whining, not quite squealing, rubbing sound from the front wheels area.
Couldn't hear it when stationary, but I could hear it when driving. It didn't matter if I was turning or braking but it was really, and I mean really, loud.
I couldn't carry on driving it like that.

So I went to my usual repairers as they've got to know my cars foibles, to get it sorted.
And my daughter piped up and said 'get them to fix your wiper at the same time' ... so I did.

You're all probably going :Ahhhh: why did we bother! and :doh: we said not to do a garage so it will cost.

But I do appreciate all the comments and I was honestly going to have a go myself xx !

Oh and the squeal turned out to be a tin plate or something, that needed re bending. It is down by the brakes to stop mud and the like from getting in ... does that make sense?

And I got to hear how loud it was outside the car too. The mechanic took it for a run to hear it for himself and the noise just followed him all the way!
I could hear the car coming back in the distance well before I could see it.

Not at all, the info is still on here for all others to see in the future, plus, you own a Multipla . . . you will get your hands dirty soon enough :p

Yes, it's just a thin Steel plate mounted on the hub assembly, you can bend them easily enough with a screwdriver/pliers etc.
 
I was lucky enough on both multi that when I had undone the nut and applied liberal amounts of generic WD40, all I had to do was wiggle the wiper arm quite furiously for a few seconds and off it popped!
