Hello everybody,
I have just fitted a new clutch slave cylinder on my 2002 Multipla 1.9 JTD, and for some unknown reason it is not bleeding. the clutch pedal is not coming back up (it has to be pumped by hand) when I bleed the clutch plus the clutch release arm is only moving about 10mm.
Can someone help advice me what might I be doing wrong, bearing in mind that the clutch slave cylinder is a brand new one

Some pointers you may find useful (if you haven't already tried them):

  1. There's a bleed nipple near the master cylinder on the bulkhead at the back of the engine bay. Many people don't realise it's there.
  2. Try removing the securing clip that holds the pipe to the slave cylinder and get someone to pump the pedal until fluid comes out, then reattach the pipe. Hold the slave cylinder in the 'in' position when you do this.
  3. Some folks recommend having the front of the car on ramps or similar to raise it. Certainly, if the back end of the car is higher than the front, you'll be in for a frustrating time trying to bleed the clutch.
  4. Have you tried using an Eezibleed kit?
  5. If the pedal isn't coming back up, the return spring inside the master cylinder may have broken. If it has, the cheats fix is to pull the innards out of a new master cylinder and fit them into the old barrel/body. Changing the entire master cylinder is not an easy job.

. . . If the pedal isn't coming back up, the return spring inside the master cylinder may have broken . . .
Is that the only return spring in the system WMF?
I'd be surprised if there wasn't a big Coiled Torsion spring as well, at the Pedal pivot.

You could try lubing the Pedal pivot Brian, I believe it's quite common for it to get a bit stiff/tight over the years/miles.
