Hi there.

I have just bought my fourth Multipla, a 2004 JTD115, and it has an odd fault on the central locking. When I went to view it, the alarm/central locking was very sporadic on the key fob. It felt like a flat battery so I didn't worry about it. I have now fitted a new battery to both fobs and neither of them work the c/l now.

Also, if the passenger door is unlocked with the key all four doors unlock, but if I use the key in the driver's door, only that one unlocks, not the other three.

Any ideas please, as I am not into electrics?

Many thanks,

Check the relays? Under lid of drivers upper glove box? If you follow instructions in manual I think you can recode the remotes to the system (flat battery left for a whole makes them "forget" code for car I think.)

Sounds like drivers central lock unit is behaving as a "slave" not a "master" unit- could you swap them or get a new drivers unit from scrapyard?

. . . should I take it to an auto-electrician?
Depends how much you feel you really need it.
My first Multi didn't have it, and I never felt I was missing anything.

Just another solution looking for a problem if you ask me (n)
When you look at all the stuff they cram cars with now, it makes you wonder how we ever managed to survive Driving 10+ years ago

No wonder they weigh so much, and start costing a small fortune to keep going once they're a few years old . . .

It could be the microswitch in the key that#s playing up. Farnell sell a very similar-spec switch but the minimum order charge makes it expensive. Someone on the Multipla forum sourced them more cheaply and fixed theirs. I can't find the thread atm - might be worth using the search facility to see if you can find it.

As for the key locking puzzle - does setting the alarm/locking code to a different country also change the locking and unlocking behaviour? Just a thought.
