I've always thought that the lower mirror on the offside was set to point too low and acted as a parking mirror (pretty redundant on the offside) and should have been set as a blindspot mirror for the motorway.

With that in mind I set about adjusting it myself as follows.

I took the whole unit off so I could work inside by removing the interior trim and then the three screws beneath. I don't think the plastic trim will take too many instances of removal and refitting as the mounting clips already show signs of the plastic having weakened :(

I then pried the mirror off after heating with a hair drier for a minute or two. I don't think mine was particularly tough to remove because the sticky pad behind had weathered and only the lower portion was still stuck, you can kind of see this in the pictures:

After cleaning up a bit I reattached the mirror using some numberplate tape I had (double sided foam) and put one thickness at the top and three thicknesses at the bottom.

Hey presto I've now got a perfectly aligned blindspot mirror, handy on the motorway (in conjunction with shoulder checks...I know :p)

I hope this brief post proves handy or inspiring for anyone who's ever thought their mirror wasn't pointing the right way.

Nice job, been meaning to sort mine since I got it (4+ years ago!).
They were either designed as blind-spot mirrors for midgets, or parking mirrors for giants.
For those of an 'average' height, they're no use as either
