Have a Multipla 1.9 (07 Reg). Started to loose power few weeks ago - worsened and egine light came up which garage diagnosed as DPF (Particulate filter). They tried to clean it, but it was beyond repair so they replaced it. Drove fine on long journey down to London from Barnsley and back, and as soon as back in Barnsley the engine light came on again. Garage tried few things - including replacing a few sensors, but now the light keeps coming up with error code P2002 (Particulate filter). Garage not convinced the filter itself is faulty, but they are not sure what to do next. They want to help, but what can I ask them to do? Car not back to normal power and light is on now so engine does not go beyond 30rpm. any suggestions?

Not conversant with DPF issues, however assuming the DPF is new it's unlikely to be the cause of the problem.

Particulate filter error code I believe is generated by back-pressure being outside parameters, this would suggest that there is a pressure sensor somewhere in the exhaust system. I'd get the garage to confirm this and if so get it checked/replaced.

Rather than replacing the parts they need to do a upstream pressure check. this will tell them if its a DPF issue or sensor. Its unlikely to be the DPF but you never know

Hate to tell u but dpf can be removed it has to be blanked though it cost around £200 to have done its a pain in the ar"e and all new cars have this problem after around 5 years but as mark says get a test done could save u a few pound in the long run I think only multipla on the road with dpf is the 120 hp version am I correct

Yep, the M-Jet is the only Multi with a DPF, helluva of price to pay for an extra 5hp!

genuine Fiat DPF?

+1. Also take into account the type of driving you also do, as this also effects the performance of a DPF. Mine regenrates approx every 2000 miles and the revs must remain above 1500 rpm when it is self cleaning, but then again I am doing 80% motorway miles. I have also found that using a centane booster in the diesel also assists the DPF.

For those folk with a M-Jet, FFF's chipping/remap route might be an answer.
You can have the DPF function de-activated at the same time, which would work out a lot less than having it stand alone.
You do then have to have the DPF replaced with a straight pipe but that doesn't have to be done at the same time (although fairly soon), as always an Italian tune up before the MOT should get you through.
I think I'm right in saying that DPF is not a legal requirement (yet).

Even a modest 25hp remap is worthwhile, it's not just the extra power and torque, it's the enhanced throttle response and lack of flat spots that make driving the car more satisfying.

Depending on your age, some insurance companies give a very reasonable loading for remaps, providing you don't go over 20-25%. I've found LV to be very reasonable in the past.

I don't really no much about dpf and the ins and outs but if u remove it are u saying it looses power and that's why u need a tune or is it just a tune to make it run abit better

Pete,
you need the ECU software changed to facilitate DPF removal, you can't remove it without getting the ECU reprogrammed and you can't reprogram the the ECU with it still in place (It won't regenerate and it will clog up).

For about the same cost of replacing the DPF, you can have the car remapped to give extra power and eliminate the DPF. You can get the DPF removal only but if I was there I'd definitely get the extra power as well.

Car has given up completely again. Lost torque completely and would not go up a slight hill. Then engine switched off. Cleared the error code, but as soon as I switch the engine on the code comes on with same error. Been towed back to garage and able to drive a few meters on flat road, but clearly not right. Will ask them to plug it into a proper reader and test back pressure etc. any other suggestions most helpful - feels like I'm back where I started before having particulate filter replaced. Btw they didn't fit a Fiat filter as that would have costed about £1800 (n).
