Hello guys... It's been a while of relatively trouble free driving........ Or so I thought!

Recently the wifey has told me that there was a strange wooshing/sighing noise coming from the engine when you changed gear.
If I'm honest I ignored it thinking she was nuts.
She's not and I'm a tit for ignoring her...:bang:
It would seem that when you depress the clutch, there is a sigh, similar to a dump valve.
It's baffled me completely.
Anyone got any ideas what this could be?
Still not got the abs/ebd issue fixed yet either.....

Black barge is due for an MOT in a week so any advice would be appreciated.

Have checked the silicon hose from the air box to the turbocharger?

Also check with soapy water your exhuast connections and check condition of your waste gate, if you have one attached to the turbocharger.

Is that only while driving though?
Does it do it every time you depress the clutch, up/down the box and when stationary?
Does it do it if you just 'blip' the throttle?

Some noises can seem as if they're definitely linked to a particular action/occasion, when they're not.

A few weeks ago, my Multipla started making a sort of 'twanging' sound every time I went over a bump or dip, it was driving me nuts, and my Wife was getting concerned as well.
Sounded just like a spring catching on something.
Actually, what it really sounded like to me was a small animal somewhere under the car, making a sort of chattering monkey-like sound, but obviously I discarded that option...

After much looking around underneath I found out what it was...a small toy Pig in the back of the car, that made a demented chuckling sound (actually, a bit more like a demented Monkey than a Pig ) when it's tummy was pressed. It was under a pile of plastic bags, and my jack was resting on the top...

I see Mrs Dev has been posting ...
I'm thinking a split hose but, would that sound like a dump valve?

This answer would seem to be the most sensible a split air pipe makes changing gear with a swoosh it sounds good but in the long run will hammer your turbo have a look at hoses running off the air box usuall suspects

@ bikeDoc ... Urban howler monkeys are a pain. You may have been too quick to dismiss that :D

Yeah I think its the hoses. I'll check tomorrow as Im on nights atm.Ive only experienced it when driving. Yet to see if it does it at idle as id then look towards clutch.

Its not so much a woosh or ttssscccchhh sound. More of an aaaaaahhhhhhh (much like a posh bird having an orgasm - if there were such a thing as female orgasm).

Its been in for diag today and has 5 different error codes lol.
Plus side - The Abs sensor is faulty and under warantee so free repair. Woop woop.

The garage I use (great guys) are gonna service the front calipers too for free cos they've decided there's a problem but only did a brake check 3 month ago. Result

I shall keep you posted.

A dump valve makes the noise it does because it (the wastegate) dumps to atmosphere, whereas the Multipla wastegate dumps into the exhaust.
Surely a split hose would make more noise while the Turbo was 'boosting', rather than when it dumps?

It could be the moment you press the clutch the revs surge for a split second... = extra momentary boost out a split hose = aaaaahhhh!!!(thats the noise right??)
maybe...??

Still worth checking the hoses could save u a nice bill

Right.....

2x lower arms
2x CV joint &Gaitor
1x rear shock
1x Front Disks and Pads
1x Push Baring
4x Glow Plugs
EGR Replacement
+ sundries
+ labor

Best guess £400/£500 parts + £250/350 labor.

The Barge is going to have to go.

Does anyone have a rough idea of value as spares/repairs/scrap?
Would any of you be interested in it as a donor?

We're looking at Rav 4. We need a bigger vehicle to carry child, 2xlarge dogs and various assorted Horse Stuff. Oh, I can get Toyota bits cheap too lol

Any advice would be fantastic.
