Had my multi jtd for about a month now.
Just took it on its 1st motorway cruise.
Noticed its a bit smokey out the back when you welly it. OK driving round town but seems to happen only when you floor it and rev it a bit hard.
Also after the run (about 40 miles), there is like a background jingling sound coming from the engine on tick over or when you blip the revs a wee bit.
I was thinking it's maybe a belt tensioners...
Any one any ideas..
Thanks.

Just to add its a 2004 older shape with 70k on it.
There also seems to be some copper grease residue on the cam belt tensioner.
Previous owner said cam belt done at 50k. Don't know about tensioner...

Aux belt tensioner??(you shouldn't be able to see cam belt tensioner)
Both tensioner and crank pulley are known failure items on the jtd... Should be replaced once they show signs of wear.
Try locking your steering with engine idling... Gettin the same noise???
A bit of hose or tubing in around the engine bay can help pin point noises.

Like Marty says, crank pulley could be giving you the jingling noises.

If the car gets mainly light-throttle use, it'll build up soot in the cylinder head and exhaust system. When you welly it, this gets cleared out so it's not uncommon to get a short (5-10 second) burst of smoke on full throttle. You could try some injector cleaner (Millers works well for me) and drive it like a nutter once in a while to clear it out.

The noise has now got a lot worse. Screeching...
Took the belt of and fitted new aux belt tensioner.
Screeching now gone. All other pulleys seem ok and crank one looks new..
There is still a tiny bit of a noise. Squirting a bit of wd40 on the idler wheel and the noise goes. So think I need to get one of these.
I priced one and they are £30.. More than the tensioner that I got for £20 from eurocarparts.
Anyone know any where else to get one..

had this problem on my citroen synergie recently. i squirt of wd40 makes the squeek go away for a little while then it returns. the squeek is because the bearings have ran dry of grease so they are running metal on metal so in time it will sieze like mine did........ that much so it stopped the car from cranking over fast enough to start and i had to take the aux belt off to get me home.:eek:if i hadnt sussed it had siezed n kepted trying to start it the cam belt could of skipped teeth knacking the engine totaly. get it changed asap matie.

I'd not waste time trying to save 10 quid sourcing it elsewhere.
Try shop 4 parts for a guaranteed good quality replacement.
If your belt comes off it could quite easily take out your timing belt with it...= muchio expense and grief!!!
Change it pronto and enjoy your multipla for another few years.
Marty.
