Hello everyone.

I have just joined the forum, so please bear with me.

I have a Y reg 1.6v Multipla that until Saturday morning was running fine (for its age).

For some reason I decided to rev the engine in an attempt to get the car warmed up for the kids. This resulted in a cough and a sputter and then the engine died.

After several failed attempts to restart I got an EBD fault. Having checked the forum for an answer I checked the battery, found the voltage to be below 12v and replaced it for a new one. The EBD fault cleared only to be replaced by an Engine Failure warning. I have changed the sparkplugs and have managed to start the engine but it is very lumpy and only runs for a few seconds.

I am at the limit of my mechanical knowledge, and sure could use some help.

Thanks in advance

Could be any of a number of problems, you need to get a fault reader on the car to find out what the problem is.

Where are you as a lot of us have EcuScan or fault readers?

I wouldn't run it again just in case the cambelt is on the way out and has slipped causing the problem.

i agree with momoe, but just a thought and dont take it thewrong way, have you put your HT leads back on the right plugs this can course miss fires and lumpy running, it used to be an old trick when buying old cars to make them sound rough had it tried on me a couple of times in the past good luck all the best

Dirty ECU connectors?

My Y-reg Multiplia 1.6 following a year of glitchy behaviour suddenly stopped in town and wouldn't start. RAC man diagnosed a crank sensor. So i got my Multiplia to a local back street garage who replaced the crank sensor, coil packs, cam sensors (scrap yard stuff) but to no avail. They finally gave up and returned my car the 15 miles or so to my house charging me 80 quid for their trouble. As it happened, i have a multimeter, so following a UTube clip that showed me how to verify the crank sensor's impedence and volts. All appeared to conform to spec! So I picked up some courage and pulled out the ECU. I noticed that the lower four connector pins were a powdery white colour whereas the others were a shiny gold. After cleaning them up, i replaced the ECU, turned the ignition key, and low and behold the engine bust in to life again. The car is running well now but the computer is now constantly beeping me to contact a garage!
