Hi
I need a repair kit for the clutch master cylinder on the FiatMultipla 1.9JTD 04. As I cannot fit the whole thing I don't want to buy a complete master cylinder.
Has anyone sourced a repair kit?
Does anyone know the OEM maker of the clutch master cylinder. I am told the number on it is 46558374
Thanks

Not aware of a repair kit, Master cylinder is such a b#gger to get out, most folk repair old one in situ with new parts from new master cylinder.

Spring or seals gone?

Hi
That is what I feared but can't believe there isn't a kit.
I don't want to pay £50+ for the innards if I can find who made the original.
Car has been off the road for a month and now the clutch doesn't. I am used to having to bleed the clutch at both points as it gradually fails suggesting a leak at the master cylinder though there is no leak visible. This time using the Eezibleed hasn't fixed it. I fitted a iron slave sometime ago so it isn't that.
I suspect the seals in the master cyclinder (70K) and know replacing the whole thing is a pain. I don't think it can be the spring as it fully returned before it was off the road. The clutch is fine.
I have jusy read someone saying you have to raise the cluch pedal when using the eezibleed so will try that tomorrow

is there a flexy rubber hose like on the brakes to clamp and hold gentle pressure on pedal and see if it fades to confirm collapse of master cylinder.?

Scrappy for a unit, with luck they'll have one out.

Try DA Motors in Wickford, they'll know if they have one over the phone.

Hi
Not much point using a scrappie one as it is unlikely to be better than mine!
I have done searches for 46558374 and 51775173 (interchangeable) and they come up as manufacturer 'alfa romeo'.
I don't have a leak and there is no loss of fluid. I suspect the seal works under compression but probably draws is a little air on the release. I have had to bleed it about once every 4 months so about 2500 miles.
I usually have no problem getting it air clear with the Eeziebleed but not this time!

Hi,

Similar, current, problem with our Multipla.

My thinking is that the rubber hosing (being old) allows the ingress of air into the system.

Has anyone replaced theirs with braided lines or copper?

Hi
I haven't, but today I bought a new clutch master cylinder. I was getting tired of bleeding the system 4 times a year even though it was quick and easy but now I can't bleed it! I reckon I could just use the internal bits from the new one but if the job doesn't look too bad I might replace the whole thing. If that cures it then it won't be the pipes! I do think the pipes would allow fluid out whereas the seals could work well under compression if not too worn.
I have after lots of googling and phone calls decided that there are no after-market master cylinders (there are several slave cylinders available, some in cast iron) and no repair kits. The same master cylinder is used on an Alfa Romeo but I can't find which one. Was surprised that virtually every Fiat or Alfa uses a different cmc.
LPR an TRW don't market the CMC

Are you trying to bleed the clutch with the nose of the car on a downwards slope??
Just when I did, it would bleed...as soon as I turn the car round so nose was uphill..it bled in seconds..
Strange one I know!

Hi
I usually do it on the level and have no problems! I had read somewhere else about the level and can believe it because of the way the rubber pipe is angled where it meets the CMC, so I jacked my car up on two jacks to raise the front but no difference!

Hi,
I just pulled the push rod out of the 'plastic' slave cylinder and
  • 1. it's plastic as well
  • 2. appears to be bent
  • 3. appears to be compressed
  • 4. appears to have a missing cap (possibly rubber)
  • 5. measures 77.8mm (using very-nears)

So, I made a new on from 8mm fiberglass rod about 79mm long and I can change gears with motor running now.

Can someone measure a new/old metal pushrod for me? please...
