Hi, great site and my first post on here. I've had my 2001 jtd multipla for 7 years now without any great problems, love the car. Recently though had some knocking from the front end over rough surfaces and ive had my head under the bonnet. Where the suspension comes through into the engine compartment there is a rubber block under a metal shaped disc fixed with an 18mm nut. Now when i put some weight on a corner, the disc comes away from the rubber by about 10mm. Could this be causing the knocking and if so can it be tightened without removing the whole of the suspension? Or should i be getting my head further under the car? By the way the car has just passed an MOT so i dont thing any of the main suspension bushes would be perished. Thanks!

That's your top mounts...not sure if that's the source of the knocking though..
I'd go with the cheaper option 1st...anti roll bar bushes...no doubt they have never been changed and will be worn.
Looking at £20 for the parts from ebay(£10 if u are in no rush and order from portugal) and an hour tops to do both yourself..then it would be the drop links which are £20 a pair too..can be a piece of **** to change...or a nightmare..depending on how easy the old ones come off! Then I'd either say wishbones or your top mounts..but since its had an MOT I'd say they are fine

Thanks for that. Ill check the anti roll bar bushes tomorrow if it not lashing down! But should the top mounts have any play in them? Can they be tightened up or are they done for? Cheers

I would try tightening them if you can...not sure if the multi has a allen slot on the top the shock absorber which u will need to hold..
I would have thought the MOT would have picked it up if excessive play though..
To test roll bar..jack the car up and push and pull the bar horizontally..that's where it knocks
I'm sure someone will add a few more comments soon..good luck

If i was to try and tighten the top mount bolts would i need to compress the springs first?

Not sure.
I thought the spring and damper were a self-contained unit (Macpherson Strut).
Might be that some will need the spring to be 'contained' when you drop the strut away from the mounting.

Just this morning I noticed my right-hand one is knackered.
The rubber under the upper washer has sheared.

Make sure that you're comparing apples with apples. Some places give a price for the top bearing and the mounting plate, while others quiote the 2 bits separately.

I got mine from Shop4parts. With the 10% forumer discount, they came to £88 for a pair of bearings and mountings.

As an aside - they are struts, but it sounds as though the damper unit (that includes the top/centre thread?) is a cartridge that can be removed from the strut leg. eper doesn't show it that way, but when I've been talking to Koni about their replacement dampers, what they actually supply is a new cartridge, not a complete leg, and the leg has to be drilled to accept their unit. Sounds like too much messing around to me, so I'm swaying towards getting the Bilsteins.

Just priced up a front strut mounting kit from EuroCarParts . . . £95 +VAT
That's for a pair, but even so...

Edit;£57 from Allparts, again, for a pair.
Just been down to Allparts, I don't know what the guy on the phone yesterday was looking at, but the mounting kits are £93...each side!
Looks like they'll be staying as-is for now at least.

Hi, i checked the roll bar and there was a tiny amount of play in it. So i ordered some anti roll bar bushes (from portugal on ebay) and fitted them yesterday and now i have a car that no longer rattles or clunks. I am suprised such a tiny amount of play could make such a noise!
thanks

And the same guy now have a polyurethane bush on ebay.co.uk to solve the problem for good.

Just taken 'the plunge' and ordered a pair of mounts from Manodalys http://manodalys.lt/.

Had a few issues with the ordering pages on their site...
1. It's in Lithuanian, and even with Google Chrome's Translate function, it can be difficult to know what you're looking at, as some of the categories have odd names/translations,
e.g. Hidrokompensatoriai [Hydraulic tappets],
Corks [oil caps, sump plugs etc],
Rear Balk details [axle parts],
and the one I needed,
Pillows > Shock Absorber Bags > The bumper airbag Fiat Multipla

2. When I got to the payment page, my address was showing as 'Lithuania', and I couldn't change it to England/UK.

3. The price was showing in £, but the figure was still what it was in the Lithuanian currency.

I sent them a message, and they got back to me really quickly.

This was their reply...
the order form is custom-tailored for Lithuania. For international deliveries, we usually have to manually look into each order and determine if it is possible to ship. That is the reason why you were not able to set the country and pay immediately.

Regarding your order, I have checked and the package would weigh over 2kg, which would automatically make the shipping 82LTL. However, I can send you both items as a separate package each. This way shipping would only be 44LTL.

Your total would be 95LTL x 2, +44LTL shipping = 234LTL, which amounts to GB£57.19
If you are satisfied with the price, please send the specified amount to PayPal account [email protected], and we will ship as soon as possible.

Which is what I've done, I'm very impressed so far (y)

Update...

Hi,
the items have been dispatched. Tracking numbers are RN600127***LT and RN600127***LT. You can track at http://www.post.lt/en

Thanks again for your purchase!

The tracking shows that the items have been sent out of Lithuania already.

If I'd known this guy for umpteen years, and he'd married one of my Sisters, I don't think he could be any more friendly or helpful (y)

Let's see what happens when they reach the UK now, fingers crossed for no nonsense from Customs...

Sounds like luck if I was to read that I would say something was abit dodgy with all currency changes etc but I suppose its a good contact if they do turn up

Well, Marty has been using them for a while without any problems. I think I'll be dropping him a line soon about engine mounts as his prices for those are pretty good.

Pete: I am the original seller. I understand that currency conversion is a mess when using Google translate, so I added an option to select your currency. The currency links are available on the right side of the page right above the information block (I can't post the exact link as I'm new on this forum).

If you have any issues using the website, feel free to contact me directly either in this forum or at [email protected] and I will do my best to help you.
