My 2002 1.6 petrol has started beeping somewhat randomly when i leave it. It doesn't always do it, just sometimes i get out and after a moment or two the indicators flash and there's a double beep, a bit like setting the alarm but quicker than i recall (it's been a while since i heard the old alarm set blast, i have my alarm set to swiss quiet mode!). After the little double beep there's a pause then a brief sound of the alarm (although again, its swiss quiet mode version, i'm not sure if its actually the alarm sound but its certainly lower pitched than the beep). All of this is without touching the key fob or for that matter even locking the door.

As always, i don't care much if its just one of those features, as long as its not a sign of a fault that will eventually leave me stranded somewhere! Otherwise i'll just get used to it along with holding the boot lid up because of the broken struts, sticking my hand out to push down the outside handle so the doors close, manually feeding the seatbelts back so i don't jam them in the door etc etc :D

Thoughts anyone?

Alarm indicator flashes a number of times to indicate which sensor has tripped, could be the door handles are interfering with the micro-switch in the door lock.
Try a light grease spray applied to the hinge line on the handles, needs working in for a good 10 mins but should do the trick, bonnet sensor can also play up but normally a clean up does the trick.
Seat belts are helped by pulling them out and cleaning them with a mild soapy solution, then spraying them with a silicon spray when they're dry.

Well when i used to use the alarm on my multipla or alfa (same alarm and same bip) on locking it there were 2 bips and after a brief pause i used to get a third bip which indicates that one door, boot or bonnet were not shut properly...if everything is closed properly on your car that may indicates a door sensor playing up.

Hmmm, now that you mention it i think this first started after my last monthly oil top-up so maybe bonnet sensor is worth a look. Actually, now i think about it, there was quite a bit of slamming to get it to catch so that seems quite a likely candidate. It didn't even occur to me that there was a sensor there. I'll have a nosy next chance i get and report back. Cheers all.

Oh and never heard 'plonker' for remote button before. Love it! Henceforth this will be my word of choice.

:)
