Hey all,

My '02 16v Petrol is idling rough as hell. Engine light comes on at start up and stays on. Warning beeps/messages and engine light flashes when idling. Warnings stop and engine light goes to constatly lit when driving though (comes back when stopped or pulling away). Seems to be running ok above ~1500rpm.

I changed the plugs already and was going to change the ignition leads next. If that doesn't fix it i was going to consider the ignition coil next.

Am i on the right track or is there something else entirely i should be looking at?

Also, if i am on the right track and the leads don't help, whats involved in swapping out the coil pack? Is it a fairly easy job? Can anyone give an overview of how to do this?

Any help appreciated folks, Santa funding is taking all my money this month so the garage won't be seeing my uglybug until the new year for sure. DIY repair would be good!

You be just wasting money changing parts guessing...if you have lights constantly on on dash plus beeps aswell all fault codes will be on ecu. Sometime even if you change the faulty part fault codes still stays on with light.
Download a free version of fiat ecu scan and get a vag cable from ebay so you can plug your car and see whats wrong with it. Or have a garage to read your ecu...
I use fiat ecu scan and it does the job

Yes thats the cable that you need. Also look for full instruction on fiat ecu scan website for set up with laptop. I suggest to have a visual look of engine bay and see if you can find anything suspicious...also worth clean with suitable cleaner the maf sensor where air filter is, as is know to be problematic...

Thanks again turbo_pib. The bug is in the bodyshop just now after some kind soul decided to re-arrange my front end by reversing into me.

But i've got the cable off ebay in the meantime and when i get the car back i'll check the maf sensor and run ecu scan. Will update soon for the benefit of others......nothing worse than finding a thread that describes your own problem perfectly but goes dead without a resolution at the end!

Hi there guys, I have just joined FF. I have just bought a 04 1.6 Stilo 5door with an uneven idle problem also. Looks like i came to the right place with you Fiat gurus on here.

I have read through a few threads allready and came accros the TB cleaning thread and hoped this will solve my idle problem. I cleaned the TB (wasn't as dirty as i had hoped) but still hunting between +- 500 rpm and 1000 untill i rev it a bit, settles at 750 but I can still feel an uneven idle/vibrition. Please help with this. :worship:

I want to buy a VAG cable on Ebay but not sure which one to buy. There are some with dip switches on them so you can do ABS and Air bag checks and then cheaper ones they sell for Audie and VW. Will the cheaper ones work?

Thank you! (y)

Hi there
I dont know if you have realised that you posted this on multipla section but you have a stilo?
I bought a cheap vag cable from ebay since my alfa days and it does work fine with fiat ecu scan...i have no experience in more complex vag cables that are able to sort abs and airbags fault but im looking for one...can you post a link of the one you found on ebay?
Have you tryed to clean the maf sensor?

Hi turbo_pib, thanks for pointing the obvious! hahaha, maybe next time i should make sure i am on the right section.
There is no maf sensor on the Stilo from what a can see. I will go and post on the Stilo section and hopefully come right there.
I cant post URLs since curently have less than 5 posts. Just do a search on Ebay for Fiat VAG cable, thats how i came accros it.
regards

I just changed the coil pack on my Multipla 00. It is a very easy job. Unscrew the three 10mm bolts on top of the coil pack. Remove the 3pol connector on the front of the pack by pressing the metal clip in as you are pulling the connector out. Remove the ignition cables from the coil and remove the coil. Replace by reversing the procedure. It took me less than 5 min but did unfortunatly not solve my problems...
