Just want a sanity check on what I should realistically expect in terms of fuel economy from the 1.6 16v Multipla.

Normal, mixed driving produces fuel economy about 30-31 mpg. Prolonged bouts of 70 mph + on the motorway takes it down to about 28 mpg. Even with a feather light like right foot it would seem unachievable to reach anywhere near the high to mid 30's??

What does anyone else average in their petrol Multipla?
Are there any engine remaps, ECU software updates available for earlier models? (I have a 2001 1.6 16v SX)

Any comments appreciated.

Don't rely on the trip meter to tell you the truth - if you want to know your real mpg then you need to do it the old-fashioned way, measuring petrol in against miles covered. You'll find that your performance is actually much better. My 1.6 always lies - in fact by my calculations it's telling me miles per American gallon (and remember US gallons are smaller than UK gallons!). Hope this helps make you happier! :)

The fuel economy of the petrol model made me consider the 115 jtd even though it was more expensive - I got 49.8mpg on a run recently!!

With the difference in petrol/diesel prices and the fact that petrol multi's are cheaper I'm not sure which model I'd buy. I do like the power of the jtd though!

I normally get about 28mpg with lots of town driving. Motorway speeds (70-80) push ot up slightly to about 30-32. Did a lot of gentle 30-50 mph driving on holiday recently and nearly put the flags out when I averaged 38mpg!!!!

I havent got mine yet but i'm buying a 1.6 16v marea weekend.
a K&N air filter should get you an extra 2-3 mpg.
(i'm just getting one for the sound!)

I've got a 1.8TD escort and yeah you can get 50mpg out of it if you do
30mph on the motorway, but the thing is soooooo slow. 0-60 is like 17 seconds or something and you have to get a 10 mile run up to even think about overtaking.

I'll take the performance over economy thanks!

if you want good mpg, get a vauxhal with a DTCI 1.7 engine, my dad is getting more than 60mpg out of his 51 reg, and it's euro4 so cheap tax.
it's even doing 45 round town!

My wife has the 1.6 (182B6) engine multipla.

I have been struggling to work out why our economy never gets above 23mpg !

Where is the MAF located ? is it two silver billet type at the back of the engine block (central back of the engine bay) where the air feed pipe goes to the plenum ?

Regards.
Matt
