Hi

I've had my 2005 Petrol Multipla for 5 years now and after parking at what appears to have been excessive lean to the right, the fuel sensor is now acting weird.

Sometimes displays correct level, other times lower than correct and then sometimes nothing at all with the fuel indicator light flashing.

I've removed all of the rear interior of the car and can see the fuel tank.

I just need to know what is the best means for accessing the tank, when I try to turn (Anti Clockwise) what I believe is the very lid it does'nt budge. Do I just need to use more elbow grease or do I need some fancy tool to get it off.

Many Thanks

Arden

Some where on the top of the tank should be a sender unit witch reads in side the car have a look at that ya cant miss it it only thing with wires coming from it this is a common prob for earlyer multis that i have noticed

Sorry about that makes no sense what i wrote on top of your tank is the sender unit witch reads how much fuel is in the car and transmits that back to the dash could be a problem with that this is a common prob try lookin around forum as i found a few storys in past 5mins

Thanks Pete.

I actually want to get into the Tank as I beleive there maybe a fault with the reader in the tank.

Any ideas how to get the Cap off?

Regards

Arden

With out havin a look i couldnt tell ya ill have a look round the forum and let ya no asap

The fuel unit should twist out anti clockwise the only thread i can find is on a doblo witch has had the same prob ya wont actually get right in to the tank if ya get what i mean from what i can make out it seems easyer to buy a tank from scrap yard or use some sedative to see if it clears the tank because if it diesel the tank will contain a wax from the diesel

This is from the maintenance CD.
It looks like you need a tool (5a in the picture) to remove the collar on the tank.

Many Thanks Pig.

OK...guess I'll need to make something. It probably just allows better torque when removing the lock collar as there is not much space for hands in there.

The important text is "...remove the fuel pump together with the level gauge"

Cheers

Hi Ray

Will do so.

May take a few weeks though, my welding gear is not with me, will probably be another 2-3 weeks before I get to sort this out.

Hope you don't mind the wait.

Arden

My wife put petrol in her mini diesel and I had to make the tool to get the sender out, it was easy, I've got welding gear, but a universal one can be bought on ebay for about £15.

Thanks Guizzo

I'm in South Africa, so 15 quid, equates to 10 Billion rand + postage.

Cheaper and still quicker to make it
