I'm looking to replace my dipped beam bulbs as one blew yesterday. Has anyone any recommendations? Thinking of getting Osram Nightbreaker Plus for both the main and dipped beams.

It's difficult to get definitive answers on bulb types for the Multi, so for anyone here who hasn't got the owners handbook (this is taken from the table on page 157 for the older, round-nose Multi):

Front Side Lights - W5W
Dipped Beam - H7
Main Beam - H3
Front Indicators - H21
Side Direction Indicators - W5W
Front Fog Lights (where fitted) - H1
Rear Lights - R5W
Reversing Lights - P21W
Rear Fog Lights - P21W
Rear Direction Indicators - P21W
Number Plate Light - W5W
Interior - Front Ceiling Light - C10W
Interior - Rear Ceiling Light - C5W (5W if you've got sunroofs, 10W if not - so you can pretend it's the sun!?)
Interior - Boot Light - W5W

I don't know how much of the above is shared with the newer shape Multipla.

Thanks again, Widemouthfrog for your reply, link and suggestions. If anyone else wants to change the beam bulb for a first generation 2001 Multipla (ok not the very first!) then it IS an H3. My baby is more of an axolotyl btw...l

I chose my forum name here because of the old joke about the wide mouth frog (google it - it's not worth relating here :) ). For some reason, whenever I look at a roundnose, I think of the frog saying the punchline.

Small pleasures...

I recently had a bulb go down whilst on the road and had a couple of those multi bulb packs sold in motor spares places. Got it changed in a jiffy and immediately noticed a difference in the light pattern. These are brighter but the shape of the light is weird. It has a sort of 'V' shape to it, I've never seen anything like it. There's no name that I can see on the bulb so it's got a better than good chance of being something made in China. I'm not moaning about the light, which is good, just the shape of it. Anybody else found anything like it?

Talking about screen names - mine is simple really = I'm an ole git (ole father times granddad's granddad is my younger brother) oh by way, the I'm 21 next berfday. (I wish)

So someone else dosnt get caught, I purchased a set of LED headlight bulbs fairly cheap, and fitted them one evening, only to find when I drove back in the dark there was no beam almost like the lights were off, so I put the originals back.
It seems to be able to fit LEDs you have to buy the ones with a heatsink and cooling fans which are expensive. I havent bought them yet, maybe Christmas?

I have used Nightbreakers and the phillips racing vision, they are good for the light, but they do not last as long - years ago we had a Citroen C3 and the bulb (we ususally used nightbreakers) on one side would go a couple of times a year - I got very good at changing it! But I have found the same in the multipla, I put racing vision in and it has gone, I cant have done 10k in the car since owning it and it went within 3 years.

As for LED's, it is illegal to use any LED bulbs in a car not designed for them, this is because the wave pattern has to be designed in a specific way to reflect off the mirrors of the light unit and produce the correct beam pattern. The only bulbs that I know of that have been designed to do this are by Phillips, they are very expensive - and still technically illegal (however, because they actually work, you are less likely to get caught). The heat sinks and fans are just to stop them over heating as LED's are so small they get very hot and fail quickly if not properly cooled, you can still end up with an incorrect beam pattern if you're buying a chinese product.

Spud: That's probably the answer to my findings with the unusual pattern of light, the 'V' was very marked, but they were nice and bright. I think I only paid a 'blue un' for the pair.
