My attempt to change the oil on the frog was sadly cut short at the weekend as I couldn't get the sump plug/bolt to move. With the sump being alloy and without the car off the ground for enough I was reluctant to start hitting the allen key with a hammer.

It is a regular clockwise thread????

Yes it's a normal r/h thread. Get a socket slightly bigger than the allen key with an extension on it. Slide it over the end of the allen key and you now have enough leverage.

Hi
I seem to remember that it is a taper thread so it can be very tight.
An alternative is to pump the old oil out through the dipstick tube

if its an alloy sump then its not a taper thread, that would only be for the 1600 petrol pressed steel sump.

you can buy sump plug sets cheap in your local b and q or wherever. youll also need a spanner the right size, usually 19mm.

if the 8mm hex is rounded out its new sump bung and stilsons time.

But either of the above incorrect tools can bugger up the plug for the next owner... or even for you... (n)
