Hi, We had a 1.6 multipla that towed our old 5 bth caravan. I think from memory it could tow up to 1200kg. It towed really well as the 1.6 has a high gear ratio, we went all over with it with no problems at all. We now have a newer multi which is a diesel and we tow our current 6 bth caravan with it, the diesel doesnt have the really high gear ratio although does tow well enough and does the job fine. The diesel has a slightly higher towing weight limit too. But to answer your question I would have no hesitation in towing with a 1.6 multi although for a family van you will have to keep in mind the 1200kg towing weight. Dont know if youve looked at caravans yet but Avondale darts are lightweight and Bailey rangers are too or if you want something a bit older Elddis wisps a good older lightweight. Hope this helps.
