I have previously grumbled about how long it seems to take my JTD multipla to get up to three blobs on the temperature gauge (three blobs is normal, isn't it? anything more than a brief display of four blobs would would be unusual wouldn't it?)

Well the last couple of days it hasn't reached three blobs at all.. It took 15 minutes of motorway cruising at about 65 to get from 1 to 2 blobs, and then just stayed at that for the remainder of my 30 minute commute. When I arrived at my destination I opened the bonnet to check that there wasn't a dodgy signal telling the fan to stay on the whole time - but the fan was off. The coolant level is normal and there is warm air available from the heater.

I don't have a haynes manual or anything for this car - where would the coolant sensor be plugged in so I can check and clean the connection?

Anyone have any guesses why it's doing this? Is it likely to be a packed up thermostat?

Cheers,

Neil.

Don't suppose you got any joy on this enquiry? I have similar problem: Our 2001 jtd shows no sign of temp at all, apart from one blob when 1st switched on (if warm) then going off altogether. More worryingly the fan doesn't appear to be cutting in either at all. Was intending to change sensor to fan and gauge. Any advice?

Any Advice? Nope sorry - mine just randomly cured itself..

I bought new sensor, guessed it would fit down at bottom corner of rad, (as there's certainly a couple of sensors there). Gather instead it fits inside thermostat housing? Sounds more involved and would need a gasket to reseal housing I imagine. We've had this car since new and it's generally been very reliable (nearly 90k now). Thanks for advice. :worship:

had same prpblem woth mine, heaters work great doenst over heat wither, found out the cable on the back of the gauge had come off
