Clutch went on my '02 Multipla JTD, 85K miles.
Local mechanic fit a new clutch, then informed me, smiling
, that I had bigger problems ....
He then drew my attention (he didn't really need to) to a loud low hum coming from the engine, very similar to the noise when you've a hole in your exhaust - except coming from the engine. He claims that it's my aircon unit, and that I could be looking at 1,000 Euro for a new one.
(I don't really get it though. This noise wasn't there before my clutch went, so could he have done something to cause/exacerbate it???)
Anyway, the engine was noisy before (minus this new noise) and FIAT mechanic told me there was probably a pulley misalligned, but I didn't pursue it, just kept an eye on the belt that it didn't fray.
If the only issue is noise I can live with it I guess, but this is all new to me I must admit. The aircon still works fine, but the noise is annoying.
Anyone had a similar experience, or got any advice?
