Hi - Today, our multipla was taken round to the garage again, because there is occasionally, (occuring more and more often now) the engine has no power when pulling off from the driveway, changing from flat to climbing a hill or pulling away from the traffic lights. I suggested the EGR valve was at fault, knowing these are problem children of the fiats, but the man in the garage took it for a test drive (the computer doesnt read anything) and decided it was turbo lag, and said "take it to a diesel specialist," without even looking at the egr valve.

Is it likely to be lag with the turbo, or more likely the egr valve?

Thanks

Simple test if it is the EGR valve is when symptoms show, take the car out of gear and floor the throttle. If it clears and performance is restored then it is likely to be the EGR valve that's stuck.

Check the pipes/hoses to the intercooler are tight, when I had my clutch replaced the jubilee clip they used was faulty and the hose kept blowing off resulting in no turbo!

Thanks - it does indeed clear, so yes, it is the egr valve. So, the garage is either wrong, or lazy - we told them when we took it in, that the EGR was the likely culprit, but they know better, of course.

Theres little to no turbo lag on the 1.9 MJet engine. When my EGR got blocked, as with most / all others, my car lost boost below 2,000RPM but came crashing in above that. I had a new EGR fitted & had my old one back, cleaned it out thoroughly so now I have one to go on if needed...

has any one got a model code for this EGR on the1.9 mjet 130bhp punt as i recon mine will go and i like foxy's idea of having a cleaned out spare!

Fiat Part number 55215032 EGR
71751469 & 55191883 for Swirl gaskets.

Vauxhall EGR Part number 1055215032 Cheaper at around £90
