Has anyone had a problem with their front wiper jets? I bought my Multipla 2nd hand and this has been a problem from the outset. No problem on the back windscreen, and although the front seems to be making all the right 'whirring' noises it sprays a feeble jet about 2 inches up the windscreen. Someone please help!
 
Check under the car to see if theres a leak. Check that the hoses are not split/damaged at the end where they meet with the washer bottle/pump, you may be suking air into the system, and losing preasure that way.

Are the jets themselves blocked? Try pushing a pin into the nosel and seeing if that helps, it could be ful up with limescale, if you live somewhere where the water is hard... To get rid of it dissolve some Calgon (not just washing machines that live longer!) in some water (make sure there are not bits left in the water, you may need to use a tea strainer) and put it in with the normal windscreen wash you use.

If the above doesn't work & they are the 'stick up' type jets adjust the spray gap to make the outlet smaller thus increasing the pressure,seen this alot but normally it's only one of the jets doing this.
 
My Multi is starting to have week pressure in the washer jets. I was thinking of taking out the whole washer bottle so I can clean it out. Is this easy to do?
To get to where the washer motor is I have to take out the front fog light is this correct?
One other thing, is it easy to disconnect the headlight washers? I seem to use up my washer fluid really quickly in this weather and if I could stop the water coming out of those the water should last longer.

Water should only come out of the headlight jets with the lights on. Have a look under the centre of the front bumper to see if the hoses are securely on the splitter and that it is not leaking.

Sorry Peat I don't think I made myself clear.
I don't have a leak just that with all this bad weather I'm driving with my lights on more and using the washer jets more. Due to the bad water pressure I'm switching the washer on and off (getting angry and more agressive with the stalk!) and of course this then squirts the headlights again using more water.
I'm thinking if I could disconnect the headlight washers will this give me more pressure? Or re-route the headlight washer jets into the windscreen ones therefore giving sort of double the pressure?
I plan to have a look at the system tomorrow night while at work.
 
I clean mine every six months, ideally you need an air line, where the adjusting screw head is in the side put the air line to it and give it a good blow, keep turning it and blowing it, I think they do come out too so you can give them a real good clean. If you havcent got an air line you could probably use the tyre pressure machine at you local garage, then re adjust the washers. 15 mins easy.
 
There are 2 pumps for the screenwash- one pump does the front AND rear jets- it rotates one way to squirt the front, and the other way to squirt the rear.

The other pump is just for the headlight washers, so it would be very easy to pull off the connector for this pump to stop the headlight washer.

By the way when you remove the screenwash jets, be careful to clamp and hold the hose to prevent it from slipping down out of reach. While you have the jets off test the flow to see if the hose is bunged up.

You may think I'm answering my own questions here but I think it's good to post anyway as it might help other people with the same problem.

It has more ideas on clearing washer jet problems including guitar strings and air dusters (aerosols that just spary air).

My left hand washer jet insert fell out a week or so back, I made a new one (that actually works better than the original (y)).
You could just try turning the jet insert(s) through 180° and switching the washer on.
Any c##p on the underside of the jet insert should then be flushed out.

Don't buy those pipe connectors/T-pieces from halfrauds, you'll get them much cheaper from an aquatic/aquarium shop, or anywhere that sells fish tank related stuff.

The driver's side jet insert popped out yesterday, luckily just while I was checking/cleaning them on the drive.

The rear one stopped working a couple of days ago, I'd assumed it was just blocked/frozen.
Turns out the pipe connector elbow had come adrift, from where it just push-fits into the shaft housing.
I had to remove the rear door panel and the motor assembly (and take the wiper arm off) to get it back in. I put a small cable-tie round it and the housing to (hopefully) stop it happening again.

I'm thinking of making an adaptor for the rear spray nozzle, to plumb in a length of hose for a wiper arm mounted spray tube.
The present set-up is as good as useless. (n)
You can't adjust the spray to cover the whole screen, you only get the inner/lower third or so wet, adjust it any further upwards and it misses the screen altogether. :rolleyes:

Ah! You've noticed that too.

I partially corrected this by blocking off one of the jet holes. Now it reaches about five eights of the way up the window.

I've learned not to use the rear spray when the temperature drops. I too used a tie on the pipe to secure it but if memory serves me right I think it came off somewhere under the o/s front wing when it froze the next time and I was persistent with the washer!

Just finished my rear wiper washer mod, and it works a treat, the whole area swept by the blade now gets washer fluid. (y)

I made an adaptor to replace the original jet piece...

I salvaged the spray fitting from my dead Toyota Lucida and mounted it on the wiper arm. It has three drillings, shown by the yellow lines...

Now the window is nice and clean, I should wash the rest of the car I guess :p
 
Bikedoc that is pretty good. I did find a site that explains how you can do the same thing for your front wipers and use a part from peugeot.

Thanks for your advice about using aquarium parts they are much much cheaper than Halfrauds. A t-bar for example is 25p!! The aquarium shop also sell the hose so worse case I can just replace the whole hose and re-route it to anywhere i like for easy access any time or to a warmer part of the car.

Latest news on this. I have managed to drop a pair of pliers beneth the black grill where the wipers are and I still haven't cured the weak pressure.
 
Try and get silicone hose if you can, try a Radio Control Model shop (fuel line hose) if the pet/aquatics shops don't have any.
Rubber or plastic hose will get very stiff in low temperatures, and you may find that connectors will break if the hose doesn't flex enough, depending on your set-up.
 
First off I've solved my weak washer jet problem!! You won't believe how happy I am.
So to recap:-
  • You should hear the motor turning when using the front and back washer
  • Pull off washer jets and clean them (secure black supply hose so you don't loose it down the front of the car)
  • Use an air hose to blow down the the black supply hose (watch for the water bubbling in the washer bottle)
  • Use thick guitar string and feed it down the black supply hose (it will stop as it reaches the T junction)
  • Use an air duster aerosol if you don't have an airline
  • From under the car on the front drivers side behind the fog light you will find the bottom of the washer bottle and all hoses relating to the washer jets.
  • Jack the car up to access bottom of washer bottle. White hose is for rear jet black hose is for front jet.
  • Thick black hose (mine dangles from under the front bumper) is the headlight washers)
  • Pull off each hose and repeat the cleaning proccess using air and guitar string.
Hope this makes sense and helps someone.
In the end I had to buy new hose and connectors and totally re-route from motor to jets.
Thank you all for above posts and especially Bikedoc you made the whole repair much much cheaper. Who would have thought to use an aquatic shop?
