My drivers side window doesn't work! I've replaced the switch but hasn't helped, i've checked the fuses and all seems fine.. Not sure what else to do..

any advice?

Thanks,

Michael

Stuck up or down ?

Mine was stuck down and I found that pulling (hard) with my fingers on the glass whilst pushing the button got it to go up again.

The problem was a filthy window and window seal. I cleaned them really well and the problem went away.

The motor is probably undersized for the huge windows on the Multipla. Dry grit, dust and filth really puts a drag on the motor pulling the pane against the seal.

You might have burned the motor out ? Are the wires crimped in the door. Any whirring in the door panel when you push the button ?

Does your Multipla live indoors ? I found that my windows went up and down better on wet days outside when the glass was lubricated with rain.

thanks for your reply..

I have further info.. using the two switches i have (the old one and the replacement)

The original switch works for putting the window up and the new switch works putting the window down.. but neither of tem do both.. what could be the problem? At least i know the motor works fine and fuse and everything should be good.. i'm lost at what could be the problem :)

Thanks

Could be 2 duff switches. I have lost count of the number of times I have bought stuff and it is duff straight out of the box...

Take the second one back if it is new, and try a third one ?

Dirty corroded connectors ? Try spraying the contacts with electronic connector cleaner... I had airbag connectors under the front seats that had a bad contact for ages giving me the red airbag light half the time. Sprayed it with with the cleaner a few times and hasn't come back for two years now...

Are you inverting the polarity when you swop the switches over ? That would explain the different direction for each switch... It could still be a one way problem.

I have a manual for the multipla somewhere will try and find the wiring diags for this.

Hi Jimbo,

Thanks for your reply. If i use the either of the switches in the passengers door the switch works absolutely fine with no problems. will try the contact spray anyway, just incase.. I also have the red airbag failure light on but i think it just needs resetting, now sure how much that'd cost..

My next thing then is to check the wiring i've had the door panel off and the wiring seems fine right up to the point it enters the car chasis.

The switches will only plug into the loom one way so there's no way i could be putting it on the wrong way around.

Bought the switch from ebay which does work when in the passengers door so no point sending it back - it may come in handy.

Thanks,

Michael

When I bought my Multipla I noticed that in the bills that came with the car's history that there had been a airbag reset, and not long before I got the car.

The airbag light came on again about six months later, and I found that if I arranged the plug in a certain direction with its velcro loop under the seat the problem would go away until my missus came and moved the seat because she is shorter. The seat moved the velcro and broke the contact that I had fiddled. This went on for some time, often the light would be on for weeks on end.

I got fed up with this and splashed out on some proper electronic contact cleaner spray. I went in and sprayed the contacts in the little conector plugs under the seats once a week for a month. No problem no. No need for a reset... for me anyroad.

Forgot my multipla manual in the garage again, will try and get it tonight.

It works! I got a switch from a fiat bravo at the scrappy and it works fine! not sure what was wrong, i'm guessing the switches i had where for a different multipla or something and the wires were a different way around.. who knows?!

My only other problem now is the radio.. i don't get much of a reception even on the radio stations in the same city as me.. would there be much point in my trying to trace the aerial cable to the roof and see if there are any breaks or anything or is there something else i can do?

thanks!

Michael
